This is probably a silly question but how do you remove the multi V belt on the serpetine engine have no aircon, was told to push the auto tensioner but this will only move a couple of mm it is almost on the stop, hence needs changing as I'm getting a tapping noise when engine is running which Im shure is this.
When I changed mine, all I had to do was turn the tensioner with the appropriate spanner and take it off - simple. The spanner is put on the centre bolt of the tensioner and turned clockwise (looking from front of car) - take a look at the fanbelt pictures below. You don't need to touch the alternator.

I'm not sure if this will be the source of you noise though. If you do need a replacement, I bought a Quinton Hazell one from a local motor factor- part number QBR71850 (about £13)
Hope this helps.

look behind the tensioner pulley, you will see socket for 1/2" drive , just put your socket wrench in there and push towards the middle of the car, hey presto, off comes the belt.
also, there`s some nice heat shields on the classifieds that will help with fan belt temperatures
