I've got one at last!
Discussion
At last, after 6 months of looking, many miles, many wasted journeys….. and looking at some right C
P described as “Minters!” I am the proud owner of my first TVR a 95 Chimaera 4.0.
I went to Offords just before Xmas and was sweet talked into parting with the folding beer notes.
So far so good! (probably tempting fate) but every thing works, even the electric mirrors. Been well looked after by previous PH owner, “Flintsone” I believe It's still on his profile.
PS It’s also one of the faster blue ones.

6 months of searching
I'm hoping to be in the market for a Chim, or possibly a Griff (can't decide to wait 'til the house sells and pay cash or temporarily finance the purchase now to take advantage of keen prices, time of year e.t.c.) and hope it won't take that long. I realise that you should never buy the first one you see and all that but would hope to find something fairly quickly. Did you find that buying via a specialist dealer such as Offords, James Agger et al better than trying to buy privately and all the leg work involved - driving miles to view so called 'Minters' as you describe? I know you will pay a bit more for a dealer car but it is probably worth it for all the fuel and time saved from trudging around the country to view private.
I appreciate any comments on this
PS I agree that Blue ones are definately faster

Congrats mate... Hope you have lots of fun with your new car.
On the question of buying from an independant or privately i think it all boils down to how confident you are finding any potential issues. Obviously you'll pay a bit more from an 'Indie' than you would expect to privately but i think you have to weigh that against peace of mind..
For what its worth, i bought privately as i was pretty confident and i bought a great car thas given me nearly 2 years of virtually trouble free motoring.

I was looking at both private sales and dealers. I was trying to find the best condition latest car for my money and as I had a limited budget the private sales seemed to provide better value.
In the end the car I found happened to be at an indie dealer and just meant haggling to agree a price. As has been said on here many times before - condition, condition, condition.
Good hunting.

Congratulations you lucky *&$#@#$$!
Great looking car. Just the colour I will be looking for in a couple of months.
I am living in Holland and I am thinking about buying in England due to the low prices.
Looking at a Chim 4.0 97-99.
Just be a little carefull of that back-end in the winter under accelaration.
Wish you many hours of thundering fun.

Careful ... I feel a Kodak moment coming on
Like i said before, you won't go far wrong with Mr Agger, or, buy from someone well known on P.Heads so you know or can find out the background of the owner/car. There are some stunning bargains out there at the moment ... I even saw a superb Griff that was tempting... in BLUE of all colours! But then I saw sense.

Do NOT do it! ... for all the reasons mechanical and human that we have discussed. Get a few miles under your tyres in a fairly robust and simple, but howling good fun V8 first.
