Folks, after reading a post on here recently it seems that the 'Big Service' for my 996C2 should be done at 48k or 4 years. Well my motor has just turned 4 years old but only has 35k on her, I though I had another 13k miles before I needed this.

So my question is, do I really need to get her in for this 'Big Service' right now or should I wait to get a few more miles on her?. I had an Annual Service about 3 months ago, but looking at it the Annual Service is pretty much them having a quick look at the car from the Service Bay.

I have been quoted circa £850 from my local OPC to do this service, If I do go for it I'm thinking of supplying my own Mibil One oil as i know a few of you guys have done this in the past. I don't want them to rip me off for that and all, how many litres will I need to supply?.

Thanks in advance, and here's waiting for when I can afford a 997GT3 which I keep reading about.

With plugs and brake fluid, I got it done for just over £800 at an OPC. My C4 was 4 years old but has done less than 30k.

The cheeky buggers tried to invoice me for the agreed amount plus loads for all their sundries, enviro dispoal, clothes, swarfega etc but I stuck to the price quoted and that's all I paid.

Its 4 years or 48k, whichever comes first.

8.5 Litres of oil IIRC.
edit: 8.75 inc oil filter so 9 litres or so according to the book.

www.opieoils.co.uk/ are good although a few people have recommended Costco on price.

If you ever intend to sell the car, I'd get the service done ... I'm trying to find a nice 996 and get frustrated with all the dealers or private sellers claiming their car has a full service history when it only has a few stampts in the book that don't correspond to the manufacturers recommendations. (see my thread of yesterday www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=341526&f=48&h=0).

That's the spark plugs isn't it? ...can be done with any service though; just depends on other mileage/time factors

Don't forget to tell them explicitly to only do the service items and any work covered under warranty (if you have one) otherwise you make need to add another 2k to cover new pads and discs all round expecially if they look a bit rusty!

I had a 48K service at around 35k miles on my (now sold) 996 purely on the 4 years. The for 48k miles is not too much extra anyway - maybe 300 quid for the new plugs/extra stuff, etc. I seem to recall mine was about 750-800. I think they are fixed priced items which you can find on the Porsche GB website. If they try to charge any more than that, challenge them over it. It beggers belief that they tried to charge someone extra for consumable stuff as a previous poster experinced.

Cheers, James.

Here's the 996 service prices:

Interestingly in that booklet there's a whole column with specific prices for a 911 C2S !

Didn't think such a car existed in the 996 range, or have I missed something ?

Yes you do - why did you get pay £150-odd for an inspection, when a proper service was due 3 months later? nuts

Hi, Just to add to the comments. My one had it's "48K" service done at 19K miles just before I bought it - invoice was for £3600....ouch! If I were you I'd get it done - sore one though!
