Hi all,

I'm considering upgrading from my current car to a T350 C or T as they look to be good value at the mo' (theres a few 03 cars for sub 20k). However, with the closure of the factory and that that entails, would buying a car like this right now be financial suicide? By which I mean, are they likely to plummet still further in coming months, and going to be impossible to sell on when the time comes? I had a TVR not too long ago and that was next to impossible to sell then, even before all the recent changes. I note that a great many for sale have been advertised for months and months and this makes me wonder if it might be even harder when it comes to my turn to sell.

I desperately miss all the noise and commotion, but I worry that owning one now might be even more of a giant liability than ever. I'm a fan of the marque, but is buying a T350 now an insane thing to do?

or does it make good sense in the regard that sellers might be getting desperate to sell and therefore you can get a deeply cheap car and offset a great deal of the stratosferic depreciation?

In short, would you?

Thanks in advance for any info you can supply

My 2p.

At the moment there are 1. owners desparate to shift their cars. 2. Owners who have to sell and 3. owners who have absolutely no intenton of selling whatsoever.

I think with time a lot of category 1s will sell to 3's who will become an even bigger majority.

I suppose there will always be some category 2s.

It's a rare car and the market is a bit different to the mundane or common.

interesting.

However, owners who never plan to sell dont feature in my worry of ever being able to sell it on, and thats a very real concern here. I dont mean hard to sell on, I mean Impossible to sell on due to lack of support, spares etc.

Though they seem good value at the mo, compared to the retail price Im guessing itll seem much less of a bargain if I end up not being able to give it away.

Then your question is 'Will there be any buyers in x years?' Unless you become a category 3! hehe

Shouldn't be an issue. See the various threads on Power sourcing all the parts. They will be able to supply to dealers and indies.

The are also thousands of current owners who will need servicing and support for their cars and engines. I can't see the market for this not getting met.

Will there be any buyers around? That's a bit trickier. Personally there seems to be a steady stream of new TVR owners and I'd also expect that to continue. Maybe we are all a bit insane.

...only that in the last couple of weeks a lot of people have popped up on this forum expressing an interest in buying a T350 or Sagaris - there is clearly demand out there!

I suspect the cars that have been for sale for ages are just overpriced. It's not that long ago (9 months?) since the thought of even a sub-30K T350 was odd - many owners haven't quite caught up with this yet....

Cheers

Jerry

If you want one buy one.
With all the uncertainty at Blackpool the prices have indeed fallen, but they will not fall so dramatically forever. I'm on my 4th TVR, a T350T, and it's almost certainly the best car I've ever had. I am going to sell it soon but only to buy another one (hopefully with about 55,000 less miles on the clock).
I wouldn't (indeed I wont) worry about the supply of spares or skilled people to service the car in the future.
Do it.

dont think quotes will work right what you have a symbol (i.e.'t350?') instead of a letter in username

Its simple really.

TVR Power can supply the bits that keep you going

There are at least three independendents who can sort the engine IF it ever goes wrong.

You can get AA cover and buy a warranty.

Where else are you going to get get a 170mph plus supercar with looks to kill for blandomobile money?

I don't think the sellers on here are going to reduce their prices alot more. TBH i was quite cheeky when i mailed a few people on here regarding price. I think a harsh winter would have done more damage to selling prices than what has happened to the factory I personally have gone off the idea because of the factory being shut down, and am having to look at other means of fast transportation. Sadly nothing looks as good as a 350

MrShorts TVR sounds like the highest mileage s6 I may have come accross on this forum, if he's buying another I guess ownership can't be as bad as the scaremongers might suggest which makes me thing buying one might not be such a bad idea!!

I have a T350. It lives with me in Australia and behaves perfectly. There is no support here but I don't care, it is that good.

I see no reason to not buy a TVR. If buyers are 'logical' car buyers then they wont buy a TVR regardless of factory situation. You buy a TVR with your heart. I just got my AJP rebuilt even though the factory has all the parts in crates. It isnt a problem. There are plenty of indies etc that can keep you on the road.

Hi,

I've just bought one. I don't think you can look at current prices as being good value, I think they are fair value. Good value, in my books, is buying something that you could turn around the next day at a profit, or with a discount that covers the next 12 months depreciation.

I bought one beacuse I wanted one and I have been very pleased with the product. It is fantastic.

What I would say is that this will be one of the few natural occasions in your life when you walk into a deal knowing that you have the upper hand and that everyone in the room knows it as well. You have a straight flush and no one else even has a pair and the cards are on the table.

For peace of mind I chose to buy through a dealer and have set it up so that any problems and someone just takes the thing away and brings it back when fixed (in theory). I also plan to extend the dealer warranty when appropriate.

The real key is to just offer what you want to pay and forget about even haggling. The market is so biased and dealers are sitting their with bills mounting and cars stagnating. Gone are the days of £4K plus turnaround, but people are probably still letting dealers take that and more.

Be firm and just walk away if you don't get what you want. Only a fool would compromise in this market. That is where your 'good' value lies.

Good luck.

I fall in to that category 2 sadly (or happily, depending on how you view my circumstances). Having bought a new T350c almost exactly a year ago, I now have to put it on the market as during the year (in order) I got married, bought a house and am expecting twins.

Its the twins bit that means I can't keep my pride and joy. Its been beautifully cared for, driven to Cornwall, south of France, and to many golf courses in the south of England. It been my only car come raid or shine and has never let me down, not leaked, never failed to start, never cut out, never over-heated. Its always been super fast, super attractive, turned heads and kept a smile on my face.

I have loved ownership and loved the performance. I don't want to sell and never entertained the thought until my most recent news. I fully intend to buy a TVR in the future once my circumstances permit, despite what is happening with TVR.

I think buying a 350 would be a silly thing to do. You should buy a TAMORA apparently taking the roof off a 350 can be a nightmare.
