Positioning a sat-nav in a Cerb

I was trying to work out the best location to mount my sat-nav in the car tonight but everywhere I tried it, it was obstructing my view big time.

I have a TomTom GO-700.

Where have any of you located yours?

Any pics?

Mount my Garmin i3 just to the right of the binnacle where is doesn't distract at all, I can also do a neat but quickly removal cable routing under the steering column so no wires everywhere which is nice. It may well be smaller than your tomtom though, in fact I liked it because it was one of the smallest at the time I bought, it is probably about the size of a tennis ball. You can get external aerials for most units and then that would allow you to mount the unit in the cubby hole which would also be quite neat.

I've made a special bracket for mine and it fits low down to the left of the instrument pod, but using the standard Tom Tom mount, the best way is to remove the bracket from the mount, and put it on updisde down. Try it and you'll see what I mean

Mine's actually in the middle of the windscreen, but as low down as I can get it. Usually either an HP PDA or a Tomtom Go Classic.

Mine automaticly comes out of the stereo hole, Yes its a built in system but great possition!

The trouble with the Tom-Toms is that they are quite deep (and also use Teleatlas maps which are not good for Ireland).

I have a Garmin Nuvi 310D in my Cerb, its a very slim unit, no more than an inch, so I mounted it on the roll bar above my head - its fold-out antenna slips between the roll-bar cover and the headlining.

Its a perfect location - doesn't obscure windscreen view like anything screen-mounted does, and as it has a bluetooth phone car kit built in, and its just above me, audio quality is fine.

I have put mine in the hole under the radio right at the back, works great and isn't affected by the sun and leaves the windscreen for looking through.

at first I thought it was going to be a pain and obscure the window too much, but it doesn't, and you get used to it.

I love my tomtom, its one of the best things I've bought in a long time, it makes driving even more enjoyable!!

There is a function in your TomTom that allows you to turn the screen 'upside down'. If you do this, then mount the sucker mid-windscreen and fiddle with the mounting you can move the TomTom screen below the level of the dash so it doesn't block your view. Works great with my old TomTom Go.

I have the TomTom one which I bought for my wife, then we bought a car with satnav in so it mostly goes in the TVR or my lads car.

The TomTom one is quite thin, and easily picks up when sat in the pod under the stereo. I'e just adopted the lowtech approach of sitting it on a small beanbag. The advantage of this location is that you don't get sunlight on the screen and don't obstruct the already small windscreen (apart from the road angel)

I put my Garmin i3 on the roll bar above my head/mirror. The 'disc' slides under roll bar and it sits up there nicely.

Have my Tom Tom One in the same poition, works fine for me, never found it an obstruction to my field of view.

I've had similar problems trying to figure out where to put my Origin B2.

I use it in full-screen speedo mode, in my last car it sat in the corner of the windscreen, but in the Cerb it doesn't really look right anywhere

BTW, the air vents on yours are in a different place to mine.

air vents moved there in late 99 me thinks. Just before light weights arrived.

Surely the unit need a clear sight line to the sky to see the satellite, hence when you are in a tunnel you loose the signal?
