Been looking for a Maserati 3200 AS but have noticed that the 456 is now under 30k on 'm' and 'n' plates.....looking at specialist service cost it would seem that the 456 is about the same to run as the 3200 AS. Is this the case or am I looking at financial suicide thinking of buyiny a Ferrari 10 to 12 years old.

I would be using the 456 everyday but as I only did 3500 miles last year I would imagine that it would be OK..the most I would probably do is 5000 miles in a year.

Thanks, the thread was an interesting read. Not sure if it has made me a little worried about ownership though.....Not really looking for an auto but thanks for the link.

Most of thread is about the horrific cost of ownership....I undersand that this is a V12 Ferrari and is never going to be cheap to run but when you start talking £1000's for window/door seals that seems a little over the top.....although the driving experience sounds brilliant.

I have a blue manual 456 GT and I cannot recommend it enough. It costs a fortune to run in terms of petrol but when you get to shift through the chrome gate, the feeling you get is unbelievable. Also, performance is fantastic too
. I can't profess to know what the GTA drives like and will leave it to others to comment; personally, I only wanted a manual.
Do it if you think you can afford the servicing (I've set aside approx £3k per annum) plus DO buy any warranty plan as there are fiddly bits which may need fixing and your warranty will hopefully cover this. I bought my car from Verdis and they are trusted guys so you may want to contact them to locate one for you.
DON'T listen to anyone's bullsh!t stories about engines blowing up or gearbox replacements because this is rare, if unheard of. Go onto FChat or Club Scuderia for more info.
Best of luck. Remember you only live once and there should be no regrets......

Longer runs are better for any car but Ferrari V12's seem to have an unfounded reputation for being fragile. The truth seems to be quite the opposite. If they are properly serviced and looked after they seem to be pretty bomb proof

4k might cover a driveshaft or a small incidental.
My ownership experience was written up in Evo.
Bear in mind that any components are astronomical - such as a steering rack at £5k fitted (loads have had these replaced) whilst a gearbox is £18k or an engine £68k.
If you are comparing with a Maserati (as I did when I paid £59k) then it swung in favour of the Ferrari due to lower depreciation. If you now look year for year then a 99 Maser is about £10k cheaper than a 95 456 and will be less to run with I suspect similar ongoing depreciation.
I would suggest that a 456 is given a specialist going over and its service history checked with the last dealer as they are now approaching money where many owners or reselling independents may not be in a position to keep them in 100% fettle given parts prices. I suspect a Ferrari exhaust wouldnt leave change from £8k (dont suggest a tubi as back boxes only are available at £2.5k)
