How Many 'What Race' comments in Threads this Year??
Discussion
Its what the whole event is about dont get people that go all that way not to watch most of it - its a legendary historic and fantastic race..... I can sit around in a campsite and drink lots of beer anywhere....
Whereas I cant assualt my eardrums with 24hrs worth of racing in many places.
Enjoy the apres driving but watch the racing too

Exactly, I'm sure everyone does whatch the race )(Ok a few morons that probably don't)
But it just gets me every year how many people reply to threads with "What race???
) thinking they are sooo funny and can drink so much they don't notice the best motorsport event of the year.
(Please ignore if you stay in Basejour as you could easily miss the race your so far away!!)
((Or Support Audis as they are nowhere noisey enough to constitute being proper race cars))!!!

First year I went I rember being at the trackside for about 20 hours
Then I became a "Moron" for the next 10 years I went
My interest in the race relaxed, it seemed not so important who is leading the race after 1 hour, 4 hours or even 12. So I tended to venture out to the track Sunday morning just to see what all the noise is about.
The next decade is just a blur to be honest but I'll be back for number 22 this year to make new friends and drink to absent ones
People who think Le Mans is just about the 24 Hours from Saturday afternoon to Sunday afternoon are missing out on too much

There must be a race somewhere ... I'm booked down to go to France in June for something anyway!

Back in the group C days the FIA were going to cancel the race (eventually it ran as a non points scoring round )
But we were still going to drive down and get
in a field near the track whatever

Oh dear....I really pity some people that just don't get the whole "essence" of LM......
LeMans is all about the few days of the year that nice cars outnumber shopping trollies on the M20.
And sharing the N138 (and your campsite) with the kind of cars you used to see on posters on your wall.
And driving your pride and joy down the Mulsanne Straight to the Friday Maison Blanche meet.
And trying to outdo the locals before the race in the battle of the national anthems.
And meat in bread.
And baking in the mid-afternoon sun waiting for the start.
And wandering down to the pit straight at 3am to watch the goings on.
And sitting with your mates and drinking ice cold Muscadet at stupid o'clock at Tertre Rouge.
And going to Carrefour and filling a whole trolly with beer and meat (and bread).
And that all important post-race group photo in the pit lane.
And......
The race is why we go, but it's only one of the reasons why the weekend is so special.
