They can measure your speed as well.
It depends on a lot of factors as to what action they take, the usual would be to offer a FPN for 3 points & a £60 fine.

As always, von, assuming the camera was loaded with film, I believe it;s fair to say that the majority are still empty in spite of the 'bucketfuls' of cash sloshing about the pratnerships.

If it hasn't recorded the offence then the camera won't be starting any prosecution process, so you won't hear about it.

Cant remember but...my recollection would be that if the camera records speed (ie its a 30mph and your caught going through light 40..) then 2 endorsable offences have been committed (speeding and failing to obey a mandatory traffic signal)and that precludes the authorities from issuing a FPN, as it would be a summons for court (after issue of NIP) I am almost certain that the system allows One endorasable and one non endorsable or two non endorsables to be issued to a driver but not 2 endorsables..............

Can anyone confirm its the normal 14days from the day after for a redlight camera too? (just for the OP, I stop when I see a redlight. Well I do now anyway)

Yes, red traffic light offences require the issuing of a NIP in accordance with Sec 1 of The Road Traffic Offenders Act 1988.

this is only for a summons to court - if it's dealt with by fixed penalty it can be longer - it will explain this on the notice

The NIP will be sent out following a camera activation such as this case.
If it's not they won't be able to go the summons route if the FPN isn't accepted. The FPN (if it's going to be offered) will be offered once the driver has been identified.

It is right that the verbal NIP doesn't have to be given if the FPN is issued to the driver at the time, because they are being told then & there they are being dealt with for the offence via the FPN proceedure. There is no wait to identify the driver in such circumstances.

What if the driver later fails to accept the FPN by failing to conform to its conditions?

Then he will be summonsed, but that is made clear on the notice (FPN) that he was handed at the time.

The FPN proccedure is accept or be prosecuted.
You are not being reported for the question to be considered as to whether you should be prosecuted. The decision has been made, if you don't accept the FPN you will be, there is no consideration.
