door opening via mirror

Hi guys, I beleive the door opening button on my cerbera mirror is kaput! Before I damage the mirror trying to remove the button, any tips for removing/refitting the button & the Maplins part required? Any help gladly received!!!!

Make sure it isn't the door sensor! Mine ceased working a while back and it ended up being a new sensor and cabling.

Prize out the mirror glass first, it's kind of 'clipped' on to a back-plate that's part of the electric adjustment. Once the glass is out the way you have access to the back of the switch a) to short it out to make sure it really is the switch, b) to replace said switch if it's knackered.

Turn the mirror head to expose the two allen key bolts, remove the bolts and the whole mirror will come off. When removing the mirror the wiring will come up out of the door, keep pulling the wiring till the block connector comes out and check block connector for corrosion. They tend to get a lot of water on them.

...remember to pull GENTLY on the wires or you may pull them out of the block

Before you do all that probably best to check the wiring & block connector inside the door, by taking the door panel off. There are 8 small allen key bolts, and you need to prise the rubber capping at the front of the door off as it is superglued on.

When the same thing happened to mine it was corrosion on the terminals inside the door.

If the switch is the same as the start buttons, which i THINK they are on mine, i have them at work if you like i can send you a couple, we have black, blue and green.

Before you start looking at the button on the mirror.You need to find if everything else is working in the door.The problem with cerbs is the wiring sits in the bottom of the door,which is usually filled with water.This corrodes all connections in the door.If you take the door card off (which is easy)you can pull the wiring through the holes in the door and check them.This however leads to another problem.You/I then decide to re-trim the door to get rid of that crap tweed trim and replace with suede!!

Thanks guys n girls,think your right about the water in the bottom of the door, as the problem only started during all the recent rain. I'll take the door card off this weekend wearing me wellies!!!!!!!!

Thanks for all your suggestions, pulled the door card off yesterday (it was sunny & warm=more enthusiasum for venturing outside) the connections on the door switch cabling was corroded, quick skwirt with contact cleaner & hey presto not locked outside the cerb in pub carparks any more!Dont ya just love pistonheads!!!!!!!!
