See...a good guy after all!

The secretive Russian owner of beleaguered British sports car maker TVR has offered to pay the estimated £3m owed to the 260 workers who were made redundant last week, says the Independent on Sunday.

Another quote from independant reads

'Mr Smolensky has told the administrators, PKF (UK), that he is prepared to pay the redundancy money, but legally he may not be allowed to do so if he does not pay back other, higher-ranking creditors.'

Yes, but if he's the smart guy portrayed, he will no doubt know that now the company is in liquidation everything would just go 'into the pot' and be used to pay the preferential creditors first (i.e.not the workers). So, a bit of a pointless offer - it won't work basically. Sounds good on paper though. Of course, if he'd paid a bonus (or proper redundancy) prior to the liquidation then then would have worked just fine.

Unless he actually thought that he could pay the workers and not the creditors despite the liquidation...but if that's the case then then that would suggest he's not such a smart guy in business after all.

So, take your pick. Smart and cynical, or not-so-smart and apparently generous.

I don't think you are right- you will all see proof on the 17th at the Press Conference.

NS is a good guy.

He only wants the best for his workforce and is completely misunderstood and incorrectly quoted by the press and his advisors.

PS: Don't you just love the new Typhoon! This will be the car that saves the brand...

I haven't seen the new Typhoon, and if it's just the 'brand' that concerns you then you've got a different take on things to most folks on here. A halfords torch with a TVR logo may well represent the TVR 'brand', but it isn't the spirit of TVR. The spirit is in the fingermarks in the resin, the hand-done welds on the chassis, the hand-made interiors....yes and even in the glue runs. I see Daewoos are now branded Chevrolet. Well, that might indeed help the Chevrolet 'brand', but to me some far eastern mini-car is never going to be a real Chevrolet, and a TVR badge on the back of some smooth multi-national supercar is never going to be a real TVR.

I haven't seen the new Typhoon,

Its not a new car it must be 2 years old by now.
And i would have to say its not so fantastic, the car pictured in all the reports has just got the tuscan s engine fitted,a good engine but its not a 600 bhp unit !

Maybe you should actually read the article? Its got a 600bhp supercharged version of the S6 apparently.

It looks hideous IMO and has no boot but small rear seats so it's uselss for touring. But its all irrelevant because its never going to be built.

This smacks of a cynical stunt dreamed up by Smolenskis PR people. He knows he cant pay the money without clearing the preferrential creditors first.

All workers should now contact the press suggesting he puts the £3 million or whatever into a charitable trust to pay the workers families. Shame him into doing it. He can hardly refuse if he has made that offer. (I cant see it on that link)
