I have a 944 S2 which is in sound condition although there are a couple of rust spots developing on the leading edge and at low level on the front arches and also on the rear arches from the past 17 years of stone chips etc.

Ideally I would like to get these sorted to preserve the car and stop it deteriorating any further. Can these areas be sucessfully made good and what is the best method? Can they be done to a standard in your garage at home or is it best to get them done professionally and if so, how much does this type of thing cost. Does anyone know a decent paintshop in the Hertfordshire/Bucks area?

Many thanks

Have the same problem on my S2. Lucky its only surface corrosion at the moment. I intend to do the repair at home and get the lower doors and wings sprayed by a paint shop.
The repair will be to clean the surface, zinc primer, paint on black underseal to match the factory finish. That way Im sure the repair is OK before the paint goes on.
Just waiting for spring to come first..............

I've had to remove both my front wings due to corrosion under the rubber sill trims, I sanded the return edges round the wheelarch as well to remove the rusty bits which seem to be quite common, and after welding the bottoms I replaced the sealant inside and got the car bottom half resprayed.
I would say to get as good a job done as you can, I took mine to a body shop even though I've got full spraying gear myself as I didn't think I'd get a good enough finish.

As far as just getting a couple of litle bits done, bear in mind that a couple of rusty bits are not so bad, with being galvanised they will probably take years to get any worse, and it may be better to leave alone if your car hasn't had any paintwork done before.

If you got rust on the rear, i would open the door and take out the air vent. Then, with a torch have a butchers to check its not rusted from inside out in the rear ring.

Cant wait to get my 944 back. 3 weeks waiting for the part and its in the garage today! Nothing has come close to the handling of a 944 even the there not the fasest cars outright 8)

Yup he's in Stevenage & one of the cars he repaired was Guards Red, it's a 928 on his web site.
