Rough running until fill up!

Been out in the griff today and petrol gauge was showing 1/2 full when switching off at the pub.
Came back and ignition on.......waited as normal for the pump to start then stop before starting her up. The pump didn't stop! 10 secs later and it was still going so tried starting her (may have been the wrong thing to do). Fired up ok.
Proceeded to the nearest petrol station and she started running very rough.
Filled up with the good stuff, ignition on.....on came the pump, 2-3 secs later pump off, start her up and runs fine all the way home!
Question is, could she of been very low on petrol (bad fuel gauge) and sucked some dirt up? I got £39 of fuel in her! Or can anyone suggest another theory?

£39 !
It was probably running on vapours when you got to the petrol station if mine is anything to go by. I doubt if I've ever put much more than £30 in at one go.

Maybe I need to ignore the fuel gauge and just go on how many miles per tank before fill up.
New question then.....how many miles do others get per tank?

Fuel starvation caused by a vacuum in the fuel tank?

Did you notice a whoosh of air enter the tank when you took the filler cap off?

Also, is the fuel tank on a griff smaller than the chim? - I can easily get >£45 in mine.

No "whooshing" noise. In my book the tank is 12.7 gallons. (converts to 48 litres)
£39 buys just over 40 litres.
I wonder if I have a dent in my tank?

I usually get in £40 or over on an empty to full fill-up. Mileage varies - I've seen 300+ on predominantly motorway journeys and less than 180 with short blasts on local roads!

So to be safe (considering how I drive )I'll fill up each time I get to 150 miles on the single tank.

Maybe low petrol wasn't the cause of the rough running after all
More investigation needed
I would much prefer the griff to stop altogether so that I have some chance of finding the fault!

I've often thought the same. I've never been able to put more than £35 in mine, which is around 8-9 gallons, this doesn't seem right at all. Is there a chance that the tank's been changed in it's life for a smaller, lighter version?

that may be true in the states, but in this country 12.7 imperial gallons gets you just under 58 litres! I'm assuming that the Griff tank is the same as my Chim tank and I've managed to squeeze in 57.4 litres once.....

I need to look at the tank more closely. I know what I'm doing this weekend.

Update:
Code reader was connected this afternoon. The error code for the air flow meter comes up.
Swapped it for "someone elses" and the code doesn't return.
Ordered one and it'll be here Tuesday. The one fitted to my Griff now looks like it's been opened up at some time. Not good
