TV Coverage from Oulton Park

Didn't think much of that coverage personally, just seemed to concentrate on Tim's smoking Sag and the brief 4 way battle for 3rd. Don't think we saw Kevan once and I was having a nice ding dong with him until I parked in the mud, although we did see his truck at the end.
Ho hum, still a chuffing good evening followed. See you all in late March.

. In fact , was the 2nd race (Ford Escort Cosworths etc) on the same day ? ,'cos im sure i saw meself in the Disco , parked near Water Tower - my usual spectating point

. Sorely disappointed with the coverage. No mention that Tim Hood had gone off with his spoiler problem. Only other shots other than who was in the lead was a shot of Iain and John Reid doing their exhibition shots. Do AMGTV realise that there is more than one class in the Tuscan Challenge? Bit unfair to the back markers who also have sponsors and need to have some coverage ensuring their sponsors see their name(s)!!!!

I agree with you. AMG offer a budget service and without them there would be no coverage. However the commentator needs replacing! He has no passion, does not know what he is talking about and has a dreadful mono-tone voice.

That was mentioned at the start of the season! Having said all that I spoke to a couple of series organisers at Autosport about TV coverage and the price we (the Tuscan series) paid for the season is pocket money compared to others. Having sais that theres no real excuse for little things like the editing that shows cars on track several laps after spinning into the kitty litter.

The TV coverage needs to make an impact on the audience and if help with the commentary then the reporter should be doing his homework and talk to the drivers perhaps and find out more about them with the odd story here and there. The incident with Tim Hood going out was not even mentioned! There is no continuity. I hope that the powers be of the Tuscan Challenge will raise a few of the issues raised to AMGTV. Fingers crossed.
I personally am looking forward to 2007 as there seems to be many more cars to race which will be great.
These drivers are bringing entertainment to the public and keeping the TVR flag flying.

Ian Sowman who does the commentary has a very great interest in motorsport and is therefore pretty well informed. But unfortunately this time he didn't do his job of explaining the story of the race as it unfolded - we didn't see footage of Tim retire so we needed to be told. I think Ian's tone during the season has improved - he's not Murray Walker but then he's not trying to be.
As Iain (Chassis 33) says above, the production is pitched at the budget end of the market and in this game you get what you pay for. There probably isn't the time/money to pick up the errors in editing/commentary and do them again. The camera work was better in this one and the sound quality much improved. Its still frustrating to have a camera at Old Hall that is too low to pick up the start.
The comments that there was only footage of the Class A leaders and the two spins are unfair: the 4 or 5 cars battling for 4th place got a pretty decent share of the 10 minutes or so of programming. Class C did miss out and should get some race footage.
I also think the editing team had quite a difficult job to do. Covering a race they have to show who is winning - and with Tim having buggered off into the distance from me and me from Steve, the footage, like our races, was pretty dull. There were a number of shots where Tim would go through, empty track for several seconds, followed by me, more empty track.... Perhaps they got the balance wrong - if they had allocated another 3-5 minutes of the programme to the Tuscans personally I would have retained the footage they had (albeit in the right order!) and then added further footage of battles going on through the field.
Finally there will always be some people disappointed with coverage no matter what is shown and twas always thus. If you dig back through the old posts in 2003 and 2004 we used to moan that there were more than 4 cars in each race. Unfortunately to guarantee getting your car in shot you either need to win the race or crash in front of a camera. The latter is an expensive route as I can testify to!

Point taken TeamHoldenRacing. Maybe the 2007 coverage will be better as there are more runners competing, therefore much more for the camera lens to behold!
