Finally got the confirmation that my car has been collected from the factory following it's service and is on it's way back to the UK as I type. typebounce Bought the car back in October and had it shipped straight to Italy to have it checked over, as it hadn't been used for some considerable time. Briefly saw it in the workshop there when we visited the factory in early December, cloud9 so to know that it is finally being delivered still feels a bit surreal. Hopefully will be able to take a few photos before it goes into hibernation to see out the rest of the winter.

Do you realise what a double cool thing to do that is Lisa - not only buy the Diablo, but not bother with the dealers, just ship it back to the factory for a check over, pop over for a cup of tea to see how they're doing, then have it delivered back all ready to roll.

You are definitely on the sub-zero cool wall yes

Can't wait, Lisa.

Everyone forgets what a privilege it must have been for the factory to see that car again. Shows an Enzo up for being the common-or-garden runabouts that they are.

Can't see Sant'Agata going all dew-eyed at seeing "Larry" again! laugh

Bet you can't wait till you hear the delivery truck come rolling down the road.

Just out of interest how did the cost of Factory Service and Inspection compare to the Main Dealers.

The transport cost is no doubt a different issue but just wondered about the actual service costs?

Ever since Audi became involved, I don't think the factory prices are the cheap option that they may have once been. Having said that, I still think that given the amount of work and checks that I've had done the final bill compares very favourably with anything that I may have been charged in this country, certainly by any of the main dealers. I'm not sure, but I often wonder if the UK dealers are perhaps only geared towards the newer cars and wouldn't have the experience to deal with some of the older stuff. Obviously once you take the transportation costs into account, shipping back to the factory doesn't seem quite so sensible, but it gave me the excuse to pop down there for a day, so what the heck.

All things being well, it should be back late tomorrow or early Thursday. Must make sure the camera batteries are charged. yes

Great news Lisa.

I always love it when the car comes in a trasnporter to your home!! I didn't manage it this time but had it with most of my cars, but with the xmas rush it was immpossible to get anyone to take the Murci up from London to Glasgow.

Hope she has a safe journey, must be like buying her all over again!!

Cheers
Paul

I have to agree with LamboChick. I've fond that main dealers seem more bisaed towards the newer cars.

It's not like the older cars are all that complicated, in comparison to the newer cars.

Whom do you deal with at the factory? Sorry to be vulgar, but what sort of cost are you looking at?

Mr Clayton, you should know that money is not an appropriate subject to discuss with a lady (I can hear Abi agreeing with me!).

How's the Jalpa, mate? Paintwork done yet?

regards

Mike (yes, that Mike!)

Tony and I came to an arrangement in that respect, with me paying for the trip to Italy offsetting a suitable discount on the price of the car. I'm quite happy with how it has all worked out.

Prices are all relevant, and will obviously vary depending on what you are having done, but as a guide their hourly rate is something like 50 Euros an hour, which is much cheaper than the £90 to £100 an hour that some places in this country are charging.

Given that it can cost £1500 to £2000 to have your car transported there and back, you have to weigh up any savings on labour charges against those transportation costs. The ideal solution of course would be to take a holiday in Italy, drive down, drop your car off, and then pick it up at the end of the holiday before driving back.

Oh cool , when I spoke to GW his stance was "the price is £X - non negotiable, but i'll throw in the factory recomission" . His non-negotiable price was in my opinion v.strong , glad you cut a deal. Best of both worlds!

I'm in the Sevenoaks area - would be great to see the car , will keep my eye on the Club Calendar

Funnily enough that was what I thought of doing. On a smaller scale if the costs were silly I might use the same approach whilst on a course in the smoke.

To answer Mr C Mikey's questions, I've arranged to meet Jonathan from Pure Detail this weekend. He's going to work out whether he can touch up, or whether I'll need to get paint.

Once the exteriror is sorted, I'll move on to the interior, which is why I might go back to the factory.

On my Jalpa the door cards have been ruined, by someone fitting large stupid speakers, the same goes for the rear speakers. The trouble is getting the door cards retrimmed, requires the leather to be moulded to fit. I'm not too sure how good a job someone else could do, if the factory has the moulds. Then I need to get the colour and the grain matched. As I can only get the parts from the factory, it may be worth getting them to work on the interior all at the same time.

Thanks for the info LamboChick, is there a specific person at the factory you dealt with?

The workshop manager is a guy called Claudio Tommasini. He speaks passable English (certainly better than my Italian) and I found him very helpful.
