Hill climbs

Hi

Hill climbs / sprints just wondered if anybody knows of one happening soon near berks/bucks haven’t been to one before but would like to go and have a look one weekend.

not sure calenders have been finalised yet. i think most venues will kick off late march, have no idea where the nearest venue in bucks/berks is though! keep an eye on the MSA website for calenders

Check out your local car club. There are lots of sprint venues in the south and south east, often on MOD property. Here in Farnborough, the Farnborough and District Motor Club use Rushmoor Arena (near Fleet, behind the airfielld).

Chobham/Longcross (near Chertsey off the M25) is close to you and has several sprints a year.

It's not for spectators (and you can only see the corner by the Paddock), but if you are interested in becoming a competitor in the future it would be a good place to get a feel for the atmosphere. Sadly, I believe they have banned passengers from the sighting laps (I have a photo of my mate's Se7en 18" in the air over the yump!).

I've seen a few PH TVRs there, and they would probably appreciate a spare pair of hands.

The TVR Speed Championship will be there on 14th July.

There's a big event at Abingdon (nr Oxford) every year, spectators are welcome there. Look for the Abingdon Motorspor Carnival.

Gurston Down is a cracking Hill Climb and I can get there in well under an hour and a half from Windsor. The season doesn`t start until the spring so there isn`t anything to look at until March/April time (anywhere).

Other than Longcross (which only offers very minor events) there aren`t really any venues in Berks/Bucks.

Prescott is however another major venue in striking distance, just outside Cheltenham.

Although every time the TVRs come out to play there, it *heaves* down with rain. There's been torrential rain for each of the last 2 years, even though the event is in mid-summer. It's 22nd July this year, so I'm hoping for third time lucky, and some speed hillclimbing instead of powerboating.

I remember you (theres a song there somewhere!!)
I've only done Prescott, I do Mainly circuit.
What About Sprints, the same as hillclimbs only easier to get to post in the morning!!
You could try this car Vscc are quite big in the hill climb world!

Gurston is fab - though you can struggle to get an entry likewise for Prescott. Top venues and great fun. Eelmore nr Farnborough.

Going to be a bit controversial here, but I don't consider Gurston Down to be all that great for spectating... It's not exactly over-endowed with corners; I reckon I've been spoilt with years of spectating at Harewood & Doune, it's just a personal thing!

Can't comment from a competitor's point of view.

Another vote for the CARnival at Abingdon. I go to both the sprint event on the Saturday and the special stage rally the next day. Some great cars (Lancia Stratos anyone?) on both days, and a couple of places to get pretty close to the action when watching.

Facilities at Gurston are first-rate, as is the organisation and it's a superb place to compete, but Prescott allows you to see more as a spectator.

I think it`s a great place to spectate, you can see most of the hill and Gurston is a lot quicker than many others. Precott is excellent although I think Shelsley the best.

Be honest - the best thing about spectating at Gurston is that you can see my driving...

If you're willing to drive as far as Gurston then Shelsley isn't too far out either. Nice drive from this area over there too.
