No one here can match the body code -which I literally read from the VIN plate on my car, of which I have made a picture to be sure - with an existing paint colour. Called Nexa Autocolour - as ICI Autocolour is called now - and they found no match either, and there's at least half a dozen reds in the 1993 TVR colour chart that from the name could be it - Indian Red, Italian Red, whatever.

So anyone know what name the colour of above body code should be? If you ask me, it's Fire Engine Red but alas that's not in the colour charts... hehe

A silly question perhaps, based on what you've stated, but are you sure it is 0422 and not P422?

StranNot sure if it helps but, my local autofactor could find no match in ICI data but Lechler had it in their database. Different colour but may be worth a try.

there is an online colour matcher:

https://buyat.ppg.com/colorweb/nexa/

but you need to be trade and registered.

Thanks, presumably it's the same as the lady at PPG/Nexa Autocoler I spoke on the phone, and the paint suppliers I tried used themselves, though?

My cars got the same code and handbook says Formula Red however with a bit of detection work and help from the forums have narrowed it down to Monza red with the ICI reference KV52 , I used a firm called paintsforu.com and got a chip and scratch kit from them and the colour seems an excellent match , Hope this is of some help .

Monza Red sounds familiar - I distinctly remember it being one of the 'possibles' the PPG/Nexa Autocolor lady mentioned, so I am going to try my luck with that! in the worst case, I'll end up with a tin of touch up paint in the wrong shade...

AFAIK the old solid red colour (as used on wedges 87-91) was called Monza Red. I think it became Formula Red later - although I've no idea if it's a different colour.

Just checked NEXA and "Italian Red/Monza Red" is listed. Depends on what type of paint you get mixed up as to the code. They all start "P422-" however.

Bible says 'Pxxx" is the type of paint (in this case a solid colour) as confirmed by the Nexa lady. SH gives the example 'P420-xxxx' as being a metallic Jaguar BRG, for instance.

Anyway, looks like Monza Red it is, then!

Its very hard to match them if you dont get them from tvr. my mate is a sprayer at tvr and he did my old one (out of hours) at his house, we matched the code and colour at a local paint mixers but it was a mile off when we used it, took a lot of time and mixing to get it right. they changed the make of paint they used a few times so the shades all slightly alter
