Hi,

Can anyone answer a (hopefully) quick question for me please?

What is the process of registering a newly built kit?

Is an MOT required after passing the SVA or is the first MOT only required after 3 years like other new cars? Also, is the SVA required to correctly the kit on the V5 or can registration happen before the SVA pass?

Any help appreciated.

The process varies depending on your local DVLA office, but you need the certificate you get from passing SVA to be able to register the car so you have to do that part first.

You don't need an MOT to register it or for the first 3 years, but your local DVLA could well tell you that you do. Depending on how awkward they are about it, it might be easier to just get one... although then you'll need one every year after.

1. You need to pass the SVA before registration as the certificate obtaines is required.
2. If the car will receive a "Q" plate due to indeterminate age or origin, that is, second hand parts from more than one donor then MOT required every year.
3. If single donor vehicle then MOT requirements should be based on age of donor.
3. If all new parts used then vehicle should be classed a new then no MOT for three years.
This does require enlightened DVLA staff, some are but others aren't.
