Hi Everyone

Well, after what seems a life time, I am in the position to buy the car of my dreams, but I need a little advice please.

It is an M plate 4l, £14995 at Racing Green TVR, Ash Vale, full service history. Mileage is 65.5k, a little high, but I am assuming this is no bad thing?

My main query is what to look for when I view it? what are the main problems I need to be aware of? I communte to london 3 days a week, and work locally (but I think I may be going the long way there and back!) So the car will be used evenings, 2 days a week and weekends. Is it OK to leave the car on a driveway, as we will have no garage till October time.

I am also not that handy with a spanner, is this a problem?

To any readers in Fleet, Hants, there should soon be a new owner to wave to!

Thanks for all and any help
Mike

There is a buyers guide on my website.

www.tvrbooks.co.uk

Mileage is not usually a problem if the car has been well looked after.

Got it as a wonderful present for Christmas!

Is leaving it outside OK? Or should it really be garaged/car cover?

I am looking to keeo the car for 2 years then trade up, hopefully

Mine sits outside on the drive. I had Leven cover on it through the winter frosts, but the rest of the time it's uncovered. I drive it everyday though. I polish it every now and then and it comes up very nicely, but mostly I drive it.

Bought a 4L from a 'Sports Car Specialist' a year ago for 13,500 with 68K miles on the clock and it runs very well, and is in excellent condition (for it's age). The only way I found to establish if the price is right was by cross referencing as many adverts as possible to make sure that it is in the right 'ball-park' given its condition. After all they are all unique!!

With the large choice of Chimaeras on Pistonheads I'd have thought that price is a bit steep for a 65k miles car, even from a dealer. Plenty of room to haggle.

Don't get me wrong - higher mileage is not a problem (my Chimaera is at 49k), apart from when you sell it.

Look at lots of cars and you will get a feel for good and bad, colours, specs, PAS etc.

Or enlist the help of a car-finder like Rob Ingleby to guide you.

Agreed the price is a tad high . . . Tell Ash Vale you will bring it back in two years if they guarantee you a TuscanR at a 20K discount!

Leven covers do the job

I payed £15,500 for my R Reg (1998) one privately just over a year ago.

That had 52500 on the clock when I got it.

I'd say the price was high. Mine had similar mileage (72k) and sold for £12,500 -- and it was a year younger and very well looked after (with a couple of nice mods too -- cue dannyboyo ).

Add say £1,500 for the comfort factor of buying from a dealer and the warranty that you get as a result, and you're still only at £14,000. Lop a grand off, I'd say.

tbag - bit late to worry about it now isn't it?

what the hell, doesn't sound like too bad a deal to me, best you take the roof off and blow those concerns out of your head.

For that money you can get a 4.5 or 5L. Much easier at cruising revs.
