While sorting out my ally roof struts, got a call from Bell Bill Garage in Bath (01373 834 252)

They are currently breaking an H plate S (S2 or S3 I presume), with 37000 miles, took a smash across the nose, but the engine is reported as fine, as is the interior.

Hope the owner is OK and is staying in the world of TVR.

I was looking for a pair of ally roof struts myself. Any clues on where to look (I've seen the official new ones, and was hoping to find a cheaper set if poss).

Thanks

Just got a set of roof struts (alloy) from a chap breaking a Chimera, 100£ for the pair. Easy to fit and they do look the mutts nuts. Found the chap through TVRWebmart (originally rang up regarding Chimera wheels!)...

On Podie's advice I posted a wanted here on PH late yesterday evening, got two callsthis morning, first wanted £150 plus carriage (from a 17000 mile Griff) but with TVR charging £85 each brand new I said now.

Second one charged £105 all including next day delivery, can't wait until tomorrow

to Podie next time I see you for pointing me in the right direction.

I've been told they are slightly longer and need a new bold mount, is this true?

Always get scared at the idea of ing up my TVR!

So am I correct in assuming that the Chimaera and Griff struts are the same and will both fit (or are there any differences) ??

Cheers

Had to drill new hole through for the lower bolt of the strut, pretty straight forward, another one of those 'need a mole grip to hold one end of the bolt while un-doing the other' (in the boot).

I managed it OK and I'm not the best DIY'er around. I found removing one strut (leaving the other one holding the roof in the required position) and attaching the new (alloy) strut to the top of the roof allowed the position to be found for the new hole.

The slightly longer strut doesn't intefere with the roof going down (or the dog on the back shelf!)

Griff / Chim struts are the same (according to the TVR garage I spoke too).. but are slightly longer than the original items in the S.

Since I'm having a new rear window put in, when the hood section goes back on, ally struts will replace the old ones...

Tripps I notice you're off to Le Mans this year as well, where ru camping? If we can find a Red S we could get an S series 'tricolour' picture!

I'm going to be in Maison Blanche with a pal (avid TVR wannabee) I'll try to put on a pic of the car on the profile tonight.
