Just got my fresh copy of Oz MOTOR mag with a angry looking kermit the frog VE GTS/Senator hybrid on the front cover.

dunno if you guys have seen it yet but it's the latest thing from Mr Walkinshaw's stable called the WP Tuning 370 GTS (basically a blown & modded VE Senator) and the MOTOR crew put it through it's paces for the write up.

Check out www.hsv.com.au/wp/2006/projects/gr for more info

Motor lists it at AUD$126K as tested.

Not too keen on the kermy colour scheme but would love one in full black with black 20" alloys & stainless mesh grill.

More importantly the same issue of MOTOR mag has a big write up & road test of the VXR 500 with lots of reference to Caspy & Wortec (all positive of course!)

dont have a link or an e-copy unfortunately but the finest quotes from the 5 page article are...

"Brian has obviously watched his Mad Max videos until the ribbon wore out!"
and..
"The Brits made a Mad Max-inspired supercharged Monaro... if only their cricket team had as much spunk" (sorry)

Another big "WELL DONE!" guys; I'll bring the mag to the Ace meet if anyone wants an optic.

Don't get too excited about this one chaps; read the specs "automatic transmission" rolleyes
Welcome to Australia, 51st State of the USA...

ETA.. Oh sorry, should have expected that as it is derived from the Senator. Just reinforces my (oft stated) view that HSVs are bought more for status than performance (in Perth at least)

In the UK the HSV's are seen as supercar equivalents but in Aus/US and the middle east the V8 Holdens/HSV variants are just nice big saloons and coupes and thats why the buyers are happy with autos. Which btw can be quicker accelerating than manual equivalents but offer less throttle control.
You can't argue with the markets desire.

Er, my Calais saloon and my wife's Monaro are both autos. Try 'kickdown' on a wet road with 500 horsepower and it's a lot more 'exciting' than a manual.

Hi Tim,

I think you are agreeing with me that the auto box can be quicker than the manual.
Was your Auto Monaro a private import?
Is your Calais the only one in the country?
I still regret not bringing my Berlina over.
