Just checked the downloadable content (X button on main landing page of GOW when firing the game up) and hey presto the 2 new multiplayer maps are now there -

The 2 new maps are now downloadable from xbox live

Just scroll to the bottom of the list - 2 there to download - one is the theme and the other is the main pack (5Mb and 90Mb roughly in size)...

Enjoy

First impressions:-

Raven down both teams start split up - 2 a piece in each of the 4 sections around the chopper, there's only frags available as extra weaponry

Old Bones much bigger map, more weapons and more fun

Managed to play 2 rounds on each of the new maps, so here's a bit better description of each now that I'm back in work:-

Raven Down

Very small confined space, games rarely last longer than a minute or so. You spawn in facing the downed raven helicopter (no matter which side you're on, with 8 people in the normal x4 per team set up you are split up into 2 further groups - imagine a crossroads with no way back but you're only able to advance to the centre of the crossroads where the chopper is down.

As you spawn in you will have 1 team mate with you and the other 2 will be off to either your direct left or right, with the other side hiding 2 of your opponents and the other 2 being directly opposite. Each team will have a set of frags stashed in the back of a pickup (much like the boomshot on the clocktower level), forget about going hunting for more weapons hidden around the map as there do not appear to be any more.

This map is a very very small area and it almost always results in a quick team up with your other 2 team mates and then charge at the enemy in a circular fashion as there's nothing you can do to cut through the centre etc, so it can also lead into some amusing Benny Hill style chases when it's 4 against 1 laugh

Old Bones

For those of you who are fans of the Mausoleum map, you're probably going to like this one as it features many similar traits that the golden oldie does. All four team mates spawn in together and straight away you are faces with a left/right option - one way is a short dash to bring you into the central courtyard of the museum which off to one side you will find a boomshot and to the other you will find a sniper. If you go the other direction from spawn you have the choice of going out a door to the central courtyard (nearest sniper end of the map) or continuing furher down to a right angle turn which brings you out behind the sniper rifle point, en route to this you will find frags.

There's no sign of a torquebow as yet, but it may be hidden away somewhere that I've not found yet, and neither has anyone else who's been playing in the couple of games I was earlier today. This map allows you to get behind opponents and has plenty of ways to get to and from different sections of the map, which is what I think makes it great fun, and also what makes it comparable to the Mausoleum map too

Anyhoo, you'll see for yourself tonight, but for the 30mins or so I played ranked matches today there wasn't a single person playing any of the old ones, with the available game list only showing these 2 new levels

May the chainsawing commence tonight laugh

I may well find myself skipping Kung Fu later in which case I'll be on earlier. Who needs to be able to kick ass when you can handle a chainsaw like I can?!!?!

Trust tonight to be the only night this week I'm not going out, and the only night my isp decides it doesn't want to provide the internet to me, on now, but a bit late, grr. Looking forward to the new maps though, Is there no sniper rifle on them?

party hehe

Good gameage last night. Really like the Old Bones level. Not a big fan of Raven Down as it's all over a bit too soon.

Fantastic way to breath some more life into the game though!

I couldn't stop laughing when we were on Tyro Station and I pinned 2 of the 3 guys with the Torque bow and was just about to release one into the final guy crouching behind a pillar as you ran past and subsequently got hit by my flying/exploding tampon in the ass before exploding just beside the last guy laugh
