Rain X - applying badly?

I bought my first bottle of Rain X at the weekend and applied to one half of the screen (to see what difference it makes).

However when my wipers go over the Rain X'ed part it smears quite badly and obstructs my vision for a while. Is this normal or have I applied it incorrectly and not buffed the screen enough?

How long roughly will Rain X last before I will need to reapply again?

I thought about getting some, but after reading the reviews on this site, the main feedback is that you put it on every mirror and window, EXCEPT the windscreen, for that very reason.

Rain X is not worth the hassle IMO.

I get much better results with Aquapel so I don't really need the wipers and it lasts much better.

try zymol HD cleanse in straight lines up and down the windscreen
works with me

Rainx works fine for me.
Above 40mph you don't need the wipers.
