I've just received an email circular that was sobering reading. Has anyone else heard about this?

Apparently the government is proposing to introduce a road pricing scheme, UK wide and this would mean having to purchase a tracking device for your car and paying a monthly
bill to use it. The tracking device will cost about £200; a recent
study by the BBC showed that under the scheme a typcial school run would cost £86 in one month and for more regular use the bill would be much higher.

On top of this is the ability for the technology to track drivers. This would result in someone knowing where you are at all times. They will also know how fast
you have been going, so even if you accidentally creep over a speed
limit you can expect a fine with your monthly bill.

Apparently there is a petition against the proposal which can be found at http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/traveltax/

Personally I can't see how the logistics of the scheme could work given the number of vehicles on the road - look at the problems and costs associated with congestion charging in London for example.

They just had about this on the BBC lunchtime news.

I encourage as many people to sign this petition. Currently 180000+ people have signed it, lets get this up as much as possible.

References to this seem to be appearing in various places, anyhow I signed it yesterday.

More than 203,000 people have now signed, including a chap called Dave Turner. If that's you, O Stressed One, many thanks for your support.

Best wishes all,
Dave.
