Right, got pulled by the Police (nothing untoward) on Fri night. Was issued with a Hort1 and told to get a new tax disc - it was up at the end of December and I had completely forgotten about it.

Fine says I, I'll go and get a new tex disc, then I realise that the MOT ran out in Sept! banghead

What do I do? Try and get an MOT & Tax before Fri?

Or

Go to the local police station tonight with my insurance certificate and hope that they see it for what it is - an honest oversight.

Any BIB's care to advise?

Get it MOT'd, then get the tax.

Is Hort1 a producer? If so, you will be reported for not having valid Mot Test certificate, and fined for the period that you were without one. No points iirc.

Yup, it's a Hort1, which is a producer.

Any BIB care to comment on my predicament?!

good advice - and yes don't worry no points for driving without a current MOT cert

As stated - get all docs in order before the 7 days are up.

When producing state that you cannot prove vehicle MOT at date of check but had it examined straight away and it passed.

They may accept all now in order and NFA.

They may report for No MOT and CPS may NFA but if they do prosecute then you have some mitigation to plead in that on discovering no MOT one was taken out immediately.

Nominal fine only - no points

I bet they find a lot of people get their MOTs done straight after being stopped....

A friend was in a very similar situation recently, got the MOT took it round and didn't even mention it. No problem.

It may have changed but many years ago I got stopped and found myself in exactly the same situation (I had tax but no MoT). Got an MoT done immediately and took it, long with other docs to police station. I told the BiB on the desk (see, it was that many years ago) that I knew my Mot was valid for another couple of months but couldn't find it so had taken it in to be tested and hoped that was OK. His reply was that it isn't an offence to not have one, but it was to not produce one. I had produced one within the 7 days so hadn't committed an offence.

Wrong G......

The idea of the producer is to show that a MOT was in force for the vehicle when stopped.
