Dunno if this has been asked before, however, are there any performance differences between PND manufaturers (ie Garmin vs TomTom) when it comes to using them in a Chimaera, specifically with regard to TMC data, be it from Trafficmaster (Garmin) or from ITIS (TT) irrespective of whether it is RDS or GPRS.

Not being questioned here are any differences, percieved or otherwise, between the quality of traffic data (right, wrong or delayed) only reception thereof.

Thanks

It's highly unlikely that anyone has tried all the different makes inside a Chimaera. I use TomTom and it works fine mounted down near the gearlever. Other makes could be better or worse than TomTom.

I mount mine on the windscreen - how do you affix it near the gear lever?

I made a bracket that is fixed to the tunnel under the centre padded unit and provides a clamping point for the TomTom shoe. I also wired a permanent power supply from the radio feed. The TomTom sits on the raised part of the centre padded unit on the passenger side.

Ah - a custom jobby! For a moment I thought Me and Cossie were missing out on a far 'neater' solution that didn't entail any adaptation.

Cheers.

I have TomTom running on my N70 mobile phone, mounted on one of those suck-pads on the windscreen. The bluetooth GPS unit sits in the door, plugged in.

All works very well, except when you accelerate hard and the suck-pad comes loose!

I'd like to mount it in some way near the gear lever, but so far haven't really had time to look into it.

I found the screen to curved for my Tom Tom suction cup, the clamp kept dropping off. So I resorted to fitting it to the front of the side window. Sems to work well and of course nice and near to the power supply.

I have my IPAQ with tomtom on the front right corner of the screen. My mounting cradle doesnt seem bothered by the curve, and its perfectly placed for plugging in the power. Bluetooth GPS jobby sits in the storage thingy at the back of the tunnel between the seats.

I tried mounting it lower but found I was dragging my eyes too far off the road when looking at it. On the screen I can see the directions out of the corner of my eye without losing sight of the road.
