Hi,

Have an occassional problem with the gearbox.

Sometimes it will be a little stiff to take out of gear as if the clutch isn't fully disengaging. Strangely though there doesn't seem to be any problem with selecting gears so I'd be suprised if it was a clutch related issue?

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Could be the master or slave cylinder.

When I had a new clutch very recently I decided to upgrade the slave cylinder as this was no added labour charge.
By upgrading the slave cylinder reduces clutch wear. Maybe your slave cylinder is sticking ?

That does sound like your Clutch slave seals. I've had them replaced twice now - seem to last about 2 yrs.

I have the same issue on the Tamora. Never really concerned me too much, I've found that if I let the car roll either slightly forward or slightly backwards, it will then become easier to pop out.

I don't yet have the symptons you have described, but I do have clutch fluid leaking from the bellhousing and have been advised that if this continues I will have problems engaging gear (ultimately I will not be able to select a gear at all!). I have been quoted £850 at a TVR dealer, to remove the gearbox and replace the slave cylinder components.

Sounds about right. It cost me £1116 for a new clutch and upgraded slave cylinder. It was a 5hr job to take gear box and clutch out.

Clutch approx £550,
5hrs labour,
Race Tech Slave Cylinder £270.

If you get a new slave cylinder I recommend you upgrade it to the Race Tech part £270. It is a better part than the standard part and is a TVR approved part. It's less wear on the clutch.

Ian, just had the master slave cylinder replaced on my Tam and the problem disappeared. Didn't upgrade though but still very happy.

Andy, are you still on your original clutch, if so, when you have to have a new clutch fitted I recommend you get the slave cylinder upgraded, because it is no added cost to the labour and will prolong the life of the new clutch.

Cheers Ian. I'll sort it when the clutch needs looking at. When replacing the slave master cylinder the guys said the clutch looked ok. Fingers crossed as don't want it back in the garage just yet!

Glad I noticed this thread. I have had hydraulic fluid dripping on my driveway for several months now. I marked the level on the resevoir a few weeks ago and its dropped around 5mm. I have subsequently topped it up. No prob with brakes or gear changing yet.
Obviously it needs attention at some stage. Cheers to Ian for the race-tech info. When I stop burying my head under the sand and get it sorted I will seek the race-tech upgrade.

Hmmmm not happy. My occasional gear problem has now manifested into the dreaded choclate finger problem grumpy
Would strongly recomend if you are having problem disengaging gear then get it checked out. It could be slave cylinder on the way out or the clutch as in my case grumpy
