Whats it worth? - Alfa 3.0 GTV
Discussion
Hi there fine ladies and gents of the Alfa, Fiat and Lancia forum.
Some of you may know I am a salesman at a Mercedes dealership ooooop nawf.
I wonder if you could help me with an Alfa I have been asked to price up by a customer and which is stumping myself, my used car manager and my sales manager. I wonder if anyone could give me an idea as to what the car is worth as at the moment our best idea and what the customer wants for it are very far apart.
The car in question is a 99 T reg GTV 3.0 Lusso, a 2 owner UK car. It is in titanium grey with red leather and what seems to be standard spec, aircon (working), alloys and sunroof. The car has a good history with a well respected independant including cambelt changes, the last being 3500 miles since. The bit that is making it hard to price for us is the mileage, its done 118500 miles. Condition is good with just one scratch and a small dent.
Don't get me wrong, this isn't an advert (I couldn't sell it retail anyway as I would have to warranty it), I am just completely stuck. Glass's gives it £3300 at 71k miles, my used car manager reckons its £2000 worth, I reckon a bit more than that, the customer would like between £3000 and £3500.
Any help would be much appreciated.

If I had room I'd be having it myself, I've always had a soft spot for these!!
Have you tried looking on autotrader.co.uk and seeing what comparative cars are asking?
There is a 110,000 mile 3.0 on a S, asking £3995 at a dealer.
also 99,000 on a V, £4,495
Everything else is north of that. There are only 34 3.0's on autotrader, so pretty rare considering they were made between 1996 and 2005 (10 year run).

I think it's one of those cars that is worth good money to someone who wants one. Joe Public is going to think Alfa + miles = danger so you'd have to pitch it low. In this case your sales manager is probably about right. For a fan or enthusiast you'd be looking at nearer 3k.
As above, Autotrader, as you well know, is a good source for real world prices. For trade level prices then ebay is the most brutal of pricing tools.

Joe Public won't be buying this car, only somebody who WANTS one(like you said). As for the miles, just goes to prove how well made they are, you see a lot with 100k or so miles on the clock. Part of the reason they are rare is the running costs, they actually do 20mpg and cost a lot to insure(on a par with cars worth/costing a lot more new). This car is certain to become a classic due to its unique looks and rarity.
I think the majority of buyers get really angry when dealers offer low/silly money when they are buying an expensive car. In my opinion, glass guide is probably correct.I would expect the Merc garage in question to pass the car onto another dealer anyway.
What car is the owner trading upto by the way?
Well, I did the deal at £2k, the new owner took his C220 CDI Coupe home today, he is doing a big mileage and needs more economy plus bigger room in the rear seats.
I brought the car home today, what a bobby dazzler! I had an entertaining play with an Audi S3 through some twisties near home on the way back and kept him at bay.
Its a cracking little car and still feels pretty tight for a 119500 mile car, it pulls strongly, everything works (apart from the front foglight switch which is a little sticky) and it feels very well planted. The car has had a stainless sports exhaust fitted by its previous owner and did a fine job of waking up the neighbours.
If I had a spare £2k right now I'd be keeping it.
Thanks for your help gents.
