Was wondering how easy it is to tune a 276 bhp to something nearer 300bhp, and if it would have a big effect on the mpg? From the reviews I've read of the gt4/06 model the extra power provided by the nissan-tuned v6 isn't that noticeable so I was thinking I may be better off getting an earlier, cheaper gt and doing it myself - any thoughts?

The later ones come with 296 as standard. Not sure on the changes, but bet it's little more than breathing and a re-map.
And s-charging is well established in the states. Downside is you'll have to put up with a constant whine then...the wife won't be happy with you spending that much money!!!

The Zed is very difficult to extract more power from without going down the forced induction route. Minor mods, exhaust etc all get cancelled out by the ECU. Plenum seems to bring the only real gains.
If you're happy with 300 horses the GT4 or the later MY06 cars are your best bet. There are several supercharger kits which seem to produce 360-400 bhp without too much trouble (Vortech, HKS, Novidem) and APS do a single turbo. Twin turbos are also available but there have been a few blow-ups and some significant upgrades to the basic engine are recommended. Got a pal who's spent a fortune but his Zed now pushes out 500 horses with a twin turbo!

Strosek is the bodykit on the car you're thinking of (350Z GTS developed by Nissan UK) but the supercharger is from a Swiss outfit called Novidem.

Since I'm picking up a 2 year old 350Z on Monday, I read a few posts here: www.350z-uk.com/
I had no intention of modifying the car as its powerful enough as it is. One interesting post mentioned spending the money on driver training and track days as this will make a much bigger difference to your speed. Worth a thought?
I'm sure I came acroos a post here where the owner spent a small fortune fixing issues caused by the extra power (clutch, cylinder head/bores etc). Total cost of car, conversion and fixes came to £40K iirc.

Agreed, driver training courses are a good idea and one I was thinking of anyway, particularly when going from fwd to rwd. TBH I just wanted my next car to feel quicker than my current (alfa gtv v6), particularly in gear. I'll prob go for a 276bhp and see how it feels (I'm sure it will be plenty), unless a good gt4 comes alomg that's not too expensive.

I think he meant a Z will keep up with an M3 in the real world as opposed to a runway 
A good place to look for 2nd hand GT4s is the classified boards on both owners clubs. I found my standard one there and I think a lot of GT4 owners are members so you might stand a better chance of finding one

Register with www.350z-uk.com and check out their traders and modifications sections. Loads of useful info and friendly folk there.
