Hi there,

I have a '99 C2 and have noticed that the idle is a bit 'lumpy'.

Yesterday while having a new key programmed at East London OPC the guy there commented on it and said he thought it might by the Variocam Solenoid.

Does this sound right? Is it expensive to repair? Will it eventually give up totally? And finally I live in Beckenham in Kent, where would you suggest getting the work done - think I'd rather not pay OPC rates.

Cheers,

Richard

I'd say it wasn't the variocam solenoid and more likely to be the air-mass flow meter.

Take it to Weston Porsche specialist in Beckenham, there a reasonably priced indy. It sounds like an air mass sensor to me, quite a common problem. Westons are on the corner of Avenue road and Birbeck road, just past clockhouse station. the number is 020 8778 3585 or 07904 911 944.

Hi Dan, hows the 944, did you get rid of that plate yet ?
The 911's been running beautifully. Bit of trouble with a door pocket, but Ill put that straight when Ive finished my double garage.
Did you read the Xmas Knees up thread [ from page 17-18.]
Im going to the cafe in the morning, see if you can make it.

Ive spoken to OP [Richard] and given him Warrens number.
See you soon.

Chances are the tech at the opc has gone into the fault codes in the engine ecu while programming the key and found something or tested the solenoid valves with the tester and found 1 not functioning.....

Hi Paul, The 944s ok, bit of a drive shaft problem at the moment from having it lowered, should be an easy fix but its too busy at work at the moment to get it up on the ramp to sort it. Were rebulding the engine from that wretched 935 flatnose SC halfords special!
Still got the same plate for the time being, might change my name to FIL instead of changing the plate! Warrens got a load of old door pockets if you need any bits to fix yours, give us a call if you need anything.
I liked the warrens fingers comment on the xmas thread, and nice photos as well.
I wanted to go to the ace cafe thing but the girlfriend stayed round on friday and there is no way she would let me drag her up to north london first thing in the morning "just to look at some cars!" hopefully ill be at the next one in feb.
Cheers for passing on the number, hopefully ill see you soon.
