Hi,
bit of an odd question, just hoping someone can give me some ideas as to what is going on

I've already posted this in a couple of more speciallised forums with no luck yet, so i'm just hoping the obvious is staring me in the face.

I've recently bought a new mobo (Abit AB9 Pro) and a water cooling kit (Gigabyte Galaxy II) amoungst other things. The pump has a lead which connects to a Molex power connector (to power the pump), the motherboard front panel header power connector and the chassis power switch. With this in place the system will not boot/ turn on/ nothing.

With this cable removed from the power switch circuit (but the pump still connected to the molex power connector) the system boots fine and the pump works.

implying there is something wromg with the Pump/pump cable.

However I have also tried the pump with my old nForce4 mobo and it worked as it should with the pump cable connected to the power switch circuit so now i'm totally confussed.

The only think I could think of is there is some incompatability between the two but tomshardware did a article where they had the two running together.

confused Anyone got any ideas?

Is the new setup perhaps drawing too much power? Therefore not able to boot up. Check your power supply rating and not only that make sure it delivers what it says on the tin. Failing that it could be that the pin configuration is different from the pump to the Mobo, but unlikely as it works on your old board.

Thanks for the thoughts.

PSU is a quality 480W model and Core2's don't draw as much current as P4's or even Athlon 64's.

I also tested it with no HDD/ DVD/ CDRW etc. just mainboard, RAM, CPU, VGA card and pump.

I bulit it fully working (chassis power switch connected directly to mobo) with everthing plugged in and it was fine. Got it to 3GHz striaght away thumbup, running each core around only 21-23 degrees C idle and 29-33 under load (2xPrime95).

The power switch simply shorts those connectors on the motherboards. It seems perhaps having the pump connected to the same power switch is somehow not allowing it to completely short?? Can't be right if they're connected in parallel??

The chassis power switch connects to the pump control lead which connects to the motherboard front panel header power connector. The pump control lead then runs back from the motherboard front panel header power connector to the pump.

Does that make any sense nuts

I think that means that pressing the switch will turn on the pump at the same time? I'm not sure how this differs from just having the molex connected without this other lead.

Yes, I too can't see why, if the pump power itself off the molex connectors, the pump can't just power itself up when the PC is turned on??

Perhaps a circuit diagram would help (I'm not winding you up!)
