My web site is forwarded to my home web server. Trouble is if I check the internet it has indexed it as:

xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx and NOT www.whateveritscalled.co.uk

how do I change it so that is is indexed (i.e. shown) as WWW ?

Also, if it is forwarded will it be indexed properly anyway?

Try setting the DNS tag www to your home IP. That should sort it?

Nice of Oggs to suggest I've got the answer but its a bit over my head to be honest.

How is the forwarding happening?

Is it a straightfoward forward, with a frame thats masking the actual address its being served from?

I guess its something to do with A records or whatever the HTTP equivalent of MX records is.

Beeston will know for sure, hes a mine of information on this sort of thing.

Personally I'd never host at home though, too many variables, hosting is cheap and its usually part of a bigger business so redundancy, power management etc are all taken care of for you.

Questions:
- Firstly, is your home server running off a static IP address or a dynamic one?
- Are you using one of those dynamic IP mappers?
- How is the domain name mapped to the IP address? (redirect, masked frame, proper A record?)

Or, alternatively, can we have a link to the site?
