PCSOs to get more power.....
Discussion
Police Community Support Officers in West Yorkshire will soon have new powers to tackle drugs, under-age drinking and public disorder on the streets.
Which follows on from their increase in powers at the start of last year which enabled them to direct traffic....
What increase in powers next year I wonder?

Mmmmmhhhhh. Ominous. I've been involved in recruiting PCSOs. Well, doing the interview bit. Generally a mix of applicants, but I think we're making a rod for our own backs with a lot of PCSOs. In my experience, a significant proportion are either reject Police Officer applicants or future rejects. The result is that we will have a significant retention problem as the penny drops with those who will never make regular officers.

Because they cost a lot more & have different conditions of service.
Sadly Nail and head.
They can say they have "x hundred" new police officers when in fact they are PCSO's. They can therefore continue to lie and cheat and attempt to fool the masses that they actually give a sh*t about protecting us, and try to get us to ignore the vast laws they keep bringing in which do no more than the previous laws we had in place, and simply cause more problems than they are worth, whilst simultaneously failing to build more prisons, and releasing murders/rapists (or letting them escape) to make room for the speeding motorist or the grannies who can't pay their council tax bills.

You forgot that by employing more PCSO's, they can make it appear (to the doddery coffin-dodgers who can't tell the difference) that there is a stronger police presence on the street, whilst not having to actually employ more real police officers who are in a position to do more good.
PCSO's:
- take much less time to train
- cost less to train and get paid less
- deter very few criminals due to their lack of any real powers and are basically there to take reports of crimes they're not in a position to stop
- often provide reports that are inadmissable in court because they have not been prepared properly (my brother's a Met sergeant, and gets regularly frustrated by this), as they either haven't been trained well enough / for long enough, or because they are simply not good enough to be plod in the first place (so arguably should not be doing any sort of police work).
Bottom line, they're used because they are cheaper and easier to produce and employ than real police.
