From my very limited experience it all depends on what you want to see: people trying to get their cars sideways while being soaked in water (Houx roundabout), people trying to do burnouts while being soaked with water(road past bleu campsite), or just people driving past (Arnage village). The cars themselves are allsorts, from sheds you just know won't make it back, to lambos and such...

To be honest, after the Friday morning cruise on the track, official drivers parade in the afternoon and drive back the last thing I needed was HA roundabout. The Stella Bar at Tetre Rouge with live band was a fine place to kick back and slow down.

Doesn't answer your question about watching cars though, sorry.

The Village of Arnage is usually a rolling roadshow all weekend long. And loads of bars up and down the main high street to watch from. Housx roundabout all day Friday as well.

Have you ever gone out to Saint Saturnin for the Great British Welcome?

I was wondering about this last year. Is it worth a trip out?

Thanks for the info. Other than the Mulsanne straight how much more of the circuit can you drive on a Friday morning.

The short straight between indy and arnage corners has been a hoot in previous years.
The Gendarmes closed it last year though

You can join after Tetre Rouge and get all the way round towards the Porsche Curves. The road in both directions is always slow due to burnouts, folk taking pics, Gendarmes but so worth the effort.

IMO it sure is, as long as you bring a car that they allow onto the dedicated "Classic Car Park" that is. In 2005 I saw the stewards in a rather French way dismissing a Z3 driver who thought he would qualify laugh

Well, we enjoy it a lot. A great gaggle of cars, good and well-priced snacks and beer, and the locals put on a good show. It's run by a local Brit but the village all joins in. Also, a number of the cars which are in the parade, leave from there before going on to Jacobins.

Where can I find out more about this Great British Welcome?

Somewhere else you may consider taking a trip along to at this time would be Chateau d'Loire. There are a couple of bars and hotels there, one of which shows the qualification and the race. IIRC, they have a parade there on Friday evening, but I have not stopped and looked around due to just passing through heading to the ciruit. I recall that there are usually a good few sports cars knocking about, and perhaps a parade... Im sure someone else will know more about this than I.

The Classic British welcome is hosted by the village of St Saturnin just off the N138 a couple of k's N of Le Mans, all day the Friday before the race and the morning of the race. The village is due to announce the theme for this year by the end of Jan. A great event only started a few years ago, all free, and a chance to get the flies off the car with a free car wash. Jazz bands, food and drink, decent loos. 100's ,maybe 1000's of brit sports cars coming and going all the time. Go to www.classicbw.org for more info.

Jacobins is the square in the centre of LM where the Parade des Pilotes starts.
