Rocket Rons Race school novice
Discussion
Having plucked up the courage to book my first track day and thought I'd better book a race school for a few reasons.
1) good advice
2) less likley to be intimidated by other riders
3) if it all goes tits up, I won't bin my bike.
So went for Rocket Rons race school at Donnington. To ride their CBR600's
However, does anyone have any simple advice on getting the best from the day. I have already started on my fitness training (well done some sit-up and checked the tyres on my mountain bike)?

Ta,
Most of the teachers are ex racers and good ones at that and I found they sometimes assume too much knowledge from students. So I suggest:
Read a book such as Keith Codes - Twist of the wrist to understand all the langague used.
Ask questions, no matter how dumb you think you will look, as most of the other students are probally thinking the same as you. Ask them to show you what they mean on a static bike - body postion, how much countersteer, where to look etc.
Speed is not the thing you are trying to achive, it is the knowledge on how to achieve more speed.
One last thing do book up for a pillion with Ron.......it is amazing. 2 years ago he took me round lapping 15 secs faster than all the Premier students in the wet. When I got off and looked at the tyres they were shagged and had hardly any tread on them at all, at the time I would not have gone out on the track with tyres in that condition. Amazing man!

This is a really good thing to do first if you've never done a trackday... I did the CBR600 one and then Blade one. It is very good as a 'taster' & certainly gives you a method to your madness, but not nearly as good as the California Superbike School which really is the Kitties Titties in my book.

I have also booked on this - there are 7 of us going up for the Premier course on May 10th. Can't wait.
I know what you mean, can't wait either. Mind you I can wait for the credit card bill (just after Xmas as well) hay ho, new TV can wait!!!!
I did it a year or so back. Got it as a 30th birthday pressie :-)
I did a wee write up of my day, see here
It was a great day and gave me the confidence to go on a track day a while afterwards at rockingham organised by no limits who I found to be very good and had loads of instructors about to help you out if you need it.

Al g - Nice write up. I'll posts a note on how I get on. My aim is a) not fall off, b) get better on a bike and c) survive in one piece
