Is TVR Power the only supplier of valves for the AJPV8?

I've had a quick Google and haven't come up with any other, obvious, suppliers.

Nothing against TVR Power, just I kile to have options.

Thanks

I am keen to buy from power so as to encourage them to supply AJP/Cerb parts. They are going to concentrate on non-Cerb/AJP models and so would be good to show them that there is reasonable business in our cars (IMHO).

Equally, if they are the ONLY supplier for AJP engine parts, then they have us over a barrel don't they?

Having alternatives is ALWAYS a good idea, and if there is any truth in your starement thay they are going to concentrate on 'non-cerb/AJP models', then it is vital that we find other suppliers.

I'll probabally end up buying from TVRPower but you have to ask the questions. They have been very efficient at supplying all the parts that I've ordered through them, so no complaints there. yes

If I can find a supplier of valves then it could benefit other owners rebuilding their engines.

Hi Jules,

That's why I posted this thread.

It was interested in where else people source AJP parts.

Thanks for the list, I know that some engine builders order their parts from TVR Power, I'm interested in who has indepandant suppliers.

Is there anything particularly special about these valves? Might it not be worth asking someone like REC (Paul Ivey) to see if he can make/supply them? He's been the source of valves for all the top-spec K series engines for a while now, amongst others.

I am thinking of getting some oversized (ie beyond 4.5 - only slightly though). Any one know if anyone makes oversized pistons and how much they are?

Talk to engine builders like Austec and TVR Power if you want over sized pistons.

Paul @ Austec has designed oversize ones for mine but I don't think they will be available for home use as they are a lot more than just oversize. They push it out from 4.475ltr to 4.525ltr afaik and as to costs well they are CNC machined from single blocks of ally I think they come in at under £200 ea. There is a lot of detailing and effectively is a completely different piston.
During my developemnt we/Paul has gone through 3 complete sets to date yikes.

You could always ask though. But I think the intention is once proved in my lump it will become part of the deluxe rebuild specification.

Only if you have a life to throw away and are prepared to wait. The yanks will make them in 3 weeks or 3 days if you need them quick. They can be had with all the coatings you may ever want as well as the latest mods in piston design.

I know Paul uses Wossner in Germany. As to why I don't really know but tbh they look similar quality to the pictures there. Perhaps its as mentioned by boosted the turn around time might be a bit long sometimes.
I know mine, now the pattern is finalised take about 2 weeks to arrive as standard, although they have turned a set around in 3 days which is not bad when you consider that includes shipping .
Either way I think they are a step up from the standard fitment.

This statement worried me, so I emailed Dom Trickett for some clarification.

Here's his reply:

'Tvr Power will do there utmost to maintain Cerbera?AJP for many years, any more question your more than welcome to ask'

So, finger's crossed there then.

This is the bit that confusing me, apart from UK prices being ott. If they have the part catelogue in the CNC then its really not a lot more than pushing the button and waiting for the machine to finish confused

Great news Tim. This should be a good thing for owners of older tivs, we may even be rid of TVR's credit problems halting the supply of parts such as clutches and the like.

That's simplistic though. First they have to have suitable forgings in stock, if not you may have to wait indefinately because I doubt they'll order a set just for you. Also, they may not wish to make 1 set of pistons if they are booked up with much bigger orders. Nothing like using the machinery to churn out a few hundred rover pistons or whatever.

Yes its a simplistic outlook. But the process is the same where ever you get them. You can get bespoke abroad and germany is not exactly 3rd world, turned around in a few days (few weeks max) to a similar if not identical high standard for much much less money. I still do not understand the thinking behind it thats all, bad business by UK suppliers imho.
