I'm still confused this morning. But when i whisked through my copy of autosport and heard the mention of WRC cars etc i was excited about the Autosport Show.

At 17:45 me and a freind took our seat in the arena for the 18:00 show. We watched with excitement the Redbull F1 intro with "Cat Women" stealing the car (i was reved, any moment now that RBR was gonna drive in and fill the room with noise) Suffice to say it didnt and was just jacked up at the back. Then we were subjected to 3 rounds of banger racing! And that was it, the only other thing was a "Grant" guy doing some stunts.

Now im not sure exactly what went wrong?

A) Was i in the right place?
- Yes im pretty sure of that
B) Had all the drivers gone home by 18:00
- If so dont run a 18:00 show
C) Can anyone add any information to this? ie: what were your experiences?

I hope someone can feed me some information because im just soo confused right now (and dissapointed)

Thanks

We watched the 10:30 show, and by all accounts it was excellent, lots more cars, single seaters, stunts etc. I thought the last show was Ovals only ?

I though the whole show was a bust this year. the Live show was average at best the presenters were lame. The show wasnt exactly well supported by the F1 teams, at one point I though Allan McNish was the only guest appearing anywhere as he seemed to be on every stand!

There was no Caterham driving experience this year although it looked like it had been set up in the "activity hall".

I think Autosport need to look at events like last years motorshow and get a few more things in for the punters to try, otherwise it's a glorified trade show.

Maybe they should think about a change of venue. The NEC is looking very tired nowadays and the facilities were poor. The choice of food in the catering hall was disappointing (as were the prices).

Finally my "premium seat" for the Live show was absolute crap, the stage was obscurred by a bloody great pillar and the giant screen started playing up halfway through.

Suffice to say after attending on a regular basis for a good many years now, I will not be bothering next year

BTW the fell for the Ovals only show a few years back - yawnarama

went to the 13:30 show - seen better I must admit. And I am sick of seeing the same banger racing cars year on year. I have no interest in them whatsoeever.
The Aston Martin GT car was by far the best part of the show for me.

They really do need to vamp it up much more. Instead of veering the live show towards the bangers, better to bring it more towards the supercars, GT cars etc. Didn't mention the F1 cars because I'd need to visit the doctor for a new set of ears !

The show was sponsored by Piston Heads so hopefully someone important may read this thread.

The A'sport has become a bit of the same old same old for the past 5 or so years.

I remember going in about 1992 when they had the live show outside which included a jet police car and a flaming wheelie truck. A lot better having stuff out there with plenty of run off area and no braking restrictions with pillars. Obviously a bit chilly at the start of Jan but of the past 15 years of ro thats what I remember from the live shows.

I agree, I think its the last time I'll go for a few years - found it all rather boring..!

I could'nt agree more.

The last one I went to was the year before last, and it was uninspiring and boring. As you say, the same ole stuff that I'd seen the last 4 - 5 years.

So I stopped going.

Don't get me wrong though - I'll still keep on going. It's a day out with a few mates (hello Busby), gawping at lasses in lycra, kicking tyres, smoking cigars and having a couple of ales.

Just make sure you don't go for those 6pm shows though!!!!

I work freelance for the organisers of the show and can confirm that every year the 18.00 show is the 'Oval Racing Spectacular' ...... got to admit it doesnt float my boat but there is a very large oval racing fanbase at the show every year!
