After the charitable act of donating my PS2 to my young nephew, I'm beginning to miss playing the odd game of footie. So I've decided, I'm gonna get me an Xbox as a late xmas prezzie... trouble is, I think I want the Xbox 360, but after seeing 'XBox 360 Premium' I'm not sure if there are different versions of this console...

Can someone put me in the picture please?

Would be interested if anyone selling on PH too

Yeah, you'll want the premium.

It comes with the 20Gig HDD and the wireless controller, the former you Definatley need if your going to go online (and you should, its what makes the Xbox what it is) and has updates for games, and you could play the soccer across on live, which you'd probably enjoy.

Thanks Fidgits.

The online experience - does it connect to a PC? I'm a bit behind the times on this one; can I use the PC monitor to play?

You can get the VGA cable which should allow you to plug it into your monitor, then you can set the resolution withing the xbox dashboard.

As you are upgrading your console, why not upgrade the monitor to a 32in LCD TV to get the best out of it.....

If you haven't already, you'll need a router to let you access both Xbox Live and the internet via the PC, without swapping the cable from the modem between the PC and the 360.
I highly recommend the Netgear RP614 one from play.com for £30 delivered. Of course, if you're not cable modem'd, then you'll need the DM111P or DM834 which have ADSL modems in-built - the latter including a Firewall, but £49 instead of £30.
Set-up via the PC and the Wizard is an absolute doddle. Had my son's PC and 360 working in about 10-12 mins.

no, you connect via ethernet or wireless..

so as above you need a router - well worth it though!

You get the headset too with premium, don't think it comes with the core package, and if you are going online, which you must with this console, it is again required. you'll end up buying a hdd and headset anyway, which works out slightly more. There are some good deals out too now, you're looking at about £270 with a game. Make sure it's gears of war if you're going to have one game

Are you sure?
I thought it was the wossername one that was problematic, but the more recent whatchamacallit was fine?

Sussed out the wossername but had trouble with the duvrey. Whojamaflip and whatchamacallit go very well together with a bit of jiggery pokery.

yikes

You got jiggy with the poker?
When I mentioned router, it was as spelt, not an alternative spelling and runon for root her!

This reminds me of our hotel receptionist at the Baiyoke Sky Hotel in Bangkok. Her name was:

TITIPORN WERASAK.

Honest.

Be aware they are bringing out a version 2 console this year that allegedly runs cooler and quieter. If what is on the web is to be believed, do a google for 360 and Zephyr and you should see what the intended improvements are.

If you want one now though (no definite schedule for v2), go ahead and get one, but be aware that one should be coming out this year

Does the console come in one colour, or is there a black version?

So far ebuyer.com seem to be offering the best online deal (at a glance) @ £270.00 delivered. With that I get:

Console with Premium Chrome Finish
Hard Drive <------- do they mean memory card?
Wireless Controller
Xbox Live Headset
Componenent HD AV Cable
Ethernet Cable

Or are there better plus-game(s) deals on offer?

Thanks again,

Paul.

no hard drive is a 20 gig hard drive that replaces any need for memory cards

I have mine working with the Orange Livebox. Try and cable it in if possible as you get less lag online.

£299 should get you the same as above, plus an extra contoller and a game or two. Keep your eyes peeled at shops like Game and Gamestation, but remember that both these shops only have their best deals in store and don't even mention them on the webpage.

Amazon - console and game (GOW - Gears Of War, for example*) for £299 all in.
Play.com - Console/GOW/PGR3/Arcade - £299 all in (sold out)
Game (online only?) - Console/GOW/TRL (Tomb Raider: Legends) - £299.99 (delivered?)

* GOW now not one listed - so either FEAR or Rainbow 6: Las Vegas recommended. Actually, FEAR 1st, then R6LV.
