Here's a question ..... if I traded my Chimaera and blew the 20k savings I notice I could stretch to a 2001 Tuscan or Tamora ..... but which one would you choose. I like the rooflessness of the Tamora, but not sure about the rear, whereas the Tuscan doesn't have the asthetic perfection of the Chimaera, but does have other very obvious appeal. Maybe I'll go try both of them this weekend and report back.

It's a really personal decision since they are all brilliant!

Just come back from trying out a Tuscan - not driven the Tamora, although I have sat in one and I expect there are plenty of simlarities in general driving.

The Tuscan felt decidedly more planted than my Griff, was a pussycat when treated gently and revved very freely. Boyoboyoboy, does it shift well!!! Overall, apart from being fing fast and having the firm suspension you expect it gave the overall impression of a Grand Tourer. I would happily disappear off to the south of France and the Alps for three weeks if someone gave me one tomorrow!

The Tamora has struck me as slightly "claustrophobic" in comparison (might be brought about by the fact that the only ones I have sat in have been black interiors). Although I wasn't interested in one I asked the dealer about how they explained the difference. They'd explain it as more of a "get out and play" - one for zapping around town and country lanes for high fun factor.

The more radical features of the Tuscan, especially the interior styling and the larger boot and generally a more spacious feel all lead me towards the Tuscan.

However, my Griff has just been serviced, the wheels have just been aligned at the dealer, I am about to go out and get new rear tyres and I have three more maintenance tasks lined up during this month. It's driving so superbly well that I cannot let it go at the moment. That's about the only reason I won't be searching a Tuscan just yet

No.... not a misprint, I think the design of the Chimaera is as near to my idea of perfection as you could get. I wouldn't argue that the Tuscan is radical, but, and it is totally personal, the Tuscan doesn't quite match the looks of the Chimaera for me.

But, I only have one eye, walk with a profound limp and think anoraks are dead cool !!!!

I went from a Cerbera to a Tuscan to a Chimaera ! Long story.Having also driven a Tamora I would say they are all excellent cars.If I had to choose it would probably be the Tamora. The Tuscan was very good but at the end of the day it is really a coupe with detachable bits ( Never had the guts to remove the rear window for fear of marking it!)Personally I get a massive amount of enjoyment from my chimaera even though it isn't the latest TVR.

I'm with you K3NJW, the Chimaera shape is pretty damn perfect, the Tuscan rather odd from some angles.

Lights blue touchpaper and gives it to cat to throw at pigeons.

ps read a quote a while back to the effect that the Chimaera rear was better than Kylies. Now who am I to argue?

Hi Nigel, in Jan 2002 I changed my 4.0l Chimaera for a Tamora and have had no regrets at all. OK, one regret, the V8 burble!

The Tamora is much more modern inside, it handles much better and is a lot faster! I know it sounds like a tractor when cold that that's a Speed 6 thing! When warm it sounds superb.

I love the Tuscan but didn't consider it when changing because the Tamora:-

1. was a 'new' car. I had one of the first two customer cars
2. is a full convertible.
3. is a foot shorter than the Tuscan and I needed the manoeuverability for where I store the car.
4. was slightly cheaper for a new car, eg. would have needed aircon in a Tuscan, etc.

Don't forget that there's only a few 2001 Tamoras out there and they're all ex dealer demos (not necessarily a bad thing?).

Btw, I drive my Tamora every day like I did with the Chimaera and find both as easy to drive as the other.

Good luck with whatever you decide/. If you need any more information/comparisons then let me know?

Cheers...... Andrew

yep. a modern interpretation of a classic sports car; balanced design too... the Tuscan's bonnet just appears to be a bit too long compared to the rear, whereas the Chimaera's is Just Right. </goldilocks>

and the rear is nice n curvy... sudding it with a sponge is almost like sudding Kelly Brook's rear

can I get danni minogue to sud my chimaera?

As a Cerb driver, I agree that the Chimaera is the most aesthetically pleasing of all the Tivvs. It has the right balance between claasic English sports car, and a slightly aggresive nature.

I'm sure in 15 years i'll be thinking ttha same about the Tuscan / Tamora et al

The guy I bought the car from fitted them. I think they were about 300 notes. He said they took him a couple of hours to fit. But since, Zertec have modded the kit, and apparently they're even easier to fit now. They're nice aren't they!

I prefer the later Chimaera rears, with the colour coded bump strip and larger boot overhang.
Makes the back end even more agressive IMHO.

Well having had a bright yellow Chim and now traded in for a new Tuscan S...I have to say I miss the V8 roar but I never had the kind of attention that I am now getting in my Tusc then when I had the Chim....the attention I get when people see the Tuscan is just awesome
