Carbon Fibre bits and pieces
Discussion
Acting on a tipoff I phoned the stuttgart connection this morning. It appears they have a bunch of (apparently) beautifully made carbon fibre bits available for the 964, and RS, including
1. Bonnet
2. Doors
3. Wings (side not rear lid type)
I can't read my hastily-scribbled notes, but it looks like the doors weigh 7kg each and come in at £1563+VAT+painting the pair. The wings are around £650+VAT each, as is the bonnet.
Together with the work to paint and fit them I guess you're looking at, umm, around £5k for a reduction in weight of, errr, around 50kg?
What do you think? Worth it? The fit and finish on these parts is supposed to be exemplary, as done by whoever the actual supplier of carbon and fibreglass is to Porsche themselves.

I was tempted, but it is a lot of money to save a few kgs. If you had a CS spec vehicle, may be worth it.
Remember that paint finish isn't so good with carbon (can see the weave through the paint on 911s so equipped I have seen).
Don't do the bonnet (ali already on your car, or should be), doors are good idea if you can afford it. Wings may be good as well.
With less weight and 9M fettling, should be a beast....

Well I couldn't afford it now anyway as I have to pay Colin for the work he's about to do; also I wouldn't have the bonnet done on the RS for obvious reasons BUT shaving 50kg off the RS is fairly significant and the finish of the unpainted item is supposed to be ex-cellent
I am having photos sent to me .. shame I can't drop in to Canvey Island to have a look for myself.

Sounds tasty. I wouldn't mind a subtle carbon weave texture actually. The Ferrari F40 has a hint of this. The RS is a race car afterall, not a piece of city-boy automotive jewellery. Go on, get it on!
I'd love to have a full on 964 RS, with all the carbon, 3.8, motec, 'charger, oooh and rhd. Trouble is that iccle fantasy list probably costs the same as a spanking '03 GT3. Oh well.

Dom, as a Caterham owner (ex) you'll know that TSK have no problem painting carbon - no weave visible through my nosecone mate. Mind you I too like the look of the F40.
I guess it's still Mark King that runs Stuttgart Connection (brother Ritchie runs/ran? Karmann Konnection) in Leigh on Sea? If so I can vouch for the sheer quality of everything he sells - it may not be cheap but he is an absolute perfectionist - sharp guy though - you'll end up spending more money than you intended too, I guarantee!

Hi Mark
I was referring to the carbonkevlar bonnet and boot I've seen on a friend's 965 Turbo 2... you can see the weave through the paint in a certain light at a certain angle. Must admit you won't see it all the time, and I think it looks quite good anyway. May not be true for all composite paintwork.
Cheers
