Was looking at accessories in Halfords last week and noticed some nice looking hose in 8mm and 5mm. Is this any good to replace the hoses from the coolant reservoir?

most small diameter silicone hose is pretty crap, and splits easily, as it isnt re-enforced.

V6 JDT & Well Fans,

Do not (as has been said) fit this silicone hose to coolant/oil systems, It IS NOT reinforced and for vacuum lines only.
If you want I can supply the correct stuff (Fluro lined) at a fraction of the cost of the Samco products and far less lead time, on average Samco take 3-4 weeks for non stock lengths.
Just let me know what you want (diameter/length and colour (blue or red)) and I shall get back to you with costs.
I am a bonafide trader, look here to verify, sorry it is all Scooby stuff but to me "a car is a car" and seeing as a VXR is my next steed i will do all I can to help.

will do some research on Oz and US forums for sizes and get back to you then. Surprised at your comments re Samco as their site lists specific products for oil/fuel and high temp use for coolant systems. Out of curiousity what we talking about for say 2 metres of 6.5mm core (or similiar) red coloured hose then, approximately will do for now - 10,20,30,40,50 quid???

I say the same still applies. Ive seen a lot of cars fitted with small diameter stuff for vac and boost guage type hoses. They split all the time.

The smallest proper re-enforced silicone hose Ive seen is 8mm ID.

Thats not to say there isnt better stuff, but its the smallest Ive seen. Just take a damn good look at it before you buy if you can.

Aussie,

Thanks for your offer of help. The hoses I'm looking for are OD 15mm x 2m and OD 12mm x 1m in blue. Don't know what the ID is as I haven't had them off but one is from the top of the coolant reservoir to the radiator and the other is just overflow from coolant reservoir. Any idea of price?
Jeff.

V6 JDT,

Because of the way silicon hose is constructed the outer wall is typically thicker (in this case 4.5mm) then conventional hose so yout 15mm OD hose would only have a bore of 6mm and the 12mm OD would be 3mm, both of these seem unlikely for what you want them for.
Let me know the real ID by measuring the metal tails they are to fit and I shall give you the exact price.

well fans,

I was not saying that Samco products are poor or that they do not do the correct stuff, they are just notoriously slow in processing orders for such things, however if I wanted to order 1000mtrs (I am in the motor trade) I would get it within 2-3 days, as far as Samco are concerned, "money talks" the more you spend the better service you get.

Paul at Roose motorsport can make custom hoses, if the price is right. Service is good though.

Ive also bought some stuff from Viper hoses, and their stuff was quite good.
