I am currently trying to resurrect my mailfile from outlook express 5 into outlook 2000 (or OE6 if it won't work in Outlook) and having the following problem.

I copied my inbox.dbx off the harddrive (manually, not using the export feature in OE5) before I re-formatted, and am now trying to import, but whenever I choose the directory where the file is located I get the message 'The mail folder could not be opened. If another application is using this file, please close and try again'

Makes no difference if it is direct from the CD or copied to a local directory, in case read-only privledges had sneaked in.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Aren't there other .dbx files?

If you copied from CD to HDD check the file isn't set to RO on the HDD, I've seen that before.

Hi BlairOut

Yes there are other .dbx files, one which matches with each of the folders i had set up essentially, so a few personal folders, along with the sent items, drafts outbox etc etc

I basically copied the entire folder within the indentities section under the old windows directory.

Good point re the read-only check, but that is OK on these files. (Had that on other files earlier this evening though that caused some headscratching!!)
