Bonnet Rods

One of mine is bodged (snapped at some point). I want to replace it. This should hopefully stop my bonnet rattling as well. anyone done this? Is it easy? Where did you get the parts from?

Got mine from Racing Green. Yes they're easy to replace.

Easy to replace...but still liable to snap...

You need to make sure the pressure going through them is correct - not too tight or they snap...and snap again...

I did a bodge job on the one that snapped (a brand new one) and this seems a lot stronger than the aluminium (or whatever) one that is standard.

is the one going to the passenger side catch supposed to be slightly bent? It kinda looks like it is meant to be that way but I cant see what its supposed to bend round

I think its just to get the rod entering the catch itself at a closer to square angle.

But it only does this if the rod is adjusted so the bend goes up vertically(ish) and parallel to the bulkhead at the back.

On mine there is a rubber grommet under the driver side rod where it attaches to the small wheel (ie under the ball joint) that holds it in position but there isn't one on the passenger side rod so the damn thing falls forward and sits on the fuel rail (its a 4.2)

I did hook it into the washer pipe clip for a while but then it rattles and the washer pipe falls all over

Has anyone thought about fitting bonnet pins instead?

I wasn't happy with the way my bonnet kept coming open at high speeds!!! My answer to the problem was to get some 6mm stud bar and tap a thread into the original rods. I then dilled holes in the plastic end bits,to help with locating the holes in the bonnet clip. it seems to have done the trick.(the stud bar goes right through the bonnet clip so no matter how much the bonnet flexes,it can't slip past the end.)

have seen a cerb with bonnet pins. It didnt look good!
