Just fitted new fan belt, now sqealing like a pig. I've loosened the centre bolt on what appears to be tesioning idler pulley and applied pressure to tension the belt but it appears to move very little, anyone got any ideas please?

You mean the drive belt.

Have you got a serpentine engine or pre-serpentine? Big, fat belt or narrow old fna belt sized belt?

It's a serpentine engine and yes it's the drive belt. I used fan belt as a generic term although I can remember them(sadly). In an attempt to assist further, the idler pulley I mentioned is attached to the engine block via 1 central bolt. There is also a circular peg on the rear face of the pulley which locates in a hole on the block so radial movement is very limited. Got to admit this is puzzling.

The idler is spring loaded to automatically maintain pressure.
If it is sqeeling, could be a faulty belt or a pulley alignment.
