if anyone is after one, my mates 96 car is up for grabs. I think he's undervalued it, so someone may get a bargain?

yes The 5zigen exhaust is definitely loud. One of the loudest aftermarket exhausts for the MR2, louder than the Nur Spec.

Nice looking car and in quite a rare colour too.

Greg I have no idea bud, shoot him a line. He has had the car for a good while like that though. From my experience Toyota maps can accept a moderate increase in boost as they are generally on the rich side, but I have no intimate knowledge of MR2 turbo's.

The stock ecu can do the job up to 1.25 bar/18 psi. As long as you run below that you should be good. You can also get a unichip, which should see you good also.

yeah rev3 stock ECU has map upto 18psi, rev 1&2 only have map to 12psi, then it just goes to max fueling and spits flames everywhere, the heat from the CT26 will cause det before it'll actually run lean.

Interesting,

you learn something new every day.

therein lies the benefit to having a car that was turbo'd out of the factory.

Greg

edit: what does 18psi with stock turbo and injectors equate to in RWHP (just curious)

As a very rough guide when I owned mine I seem to recall every 1psi increase over stock gives you around 10bhp, this assumes same or hybrid turbo

230-odd I think.

Should be something like 300 at the fly - so depends on the drivetrain. If I'm getting 200-210 to the wheels from the same engine, I'm very happy.

not wishing to be controversial, but does the MR2 engine flow badly, it's just that from 18psi, i would expect more power than that, is the turbo a T25/T28 type or is it significantly smaller (that may explain the bigger boost/HP if it is struggling to fill the cylinders.

As a comparison, my turbo is a T28 hybrid on a 1.8 running C10psi and my fly hp is 260-270 (lower end guesstimate as no dyno sheet) with 18psi, mx5's are getting 320+ WHP and the mx isn't renowned for it's flow characteristics, maybe slightly better than average, no more.

Just interested, that's all

The rev 3 is 245 at the fly stock, at, if I can remember 12 psi? It is also damned reliable at that. At 18 psi you should be 290-300+ bhp. They say 25% transmission loss, so whatever that works out at. It's not bad at all.
