Hi,

I am jumping the gun a little, as my 911 purchase (as a second car) is still a couple of years away (when 996 Turbos are even more a bargain!) but I can only really justify it if I can realistically believe that I can get a child safely and legally in the back seats. My son will be 2/3 years old so will need to fit some form of child seat.

Will it work, or am I just hoping?! I've deliberately avoided any 2 seater for this reason, and the 911 turbo ticks all the boxes in terms of relability, nutter b@st@rd performance and drivavility if not more so than any other option anyway. I guess the other worry is all the associated stuff that goes with the child, not necessarily the child itself. What's storage like in the 911? Is it limited to the other back seat?

I traded in an M5 for the family chariot which is an Audi A4 Avant Diesel... awesome, best in class.

Any info greatfully received.

Cheers
Rich

no problem getting kids in a 996. mine are 6 and 9 now and they still fit nicely.

boot space is a little more limited. as its 4wd the turbo has a reasonably shallow boot.

if you do a search on "baby seats" you should find the answers

Kids will be happier in a Coupe than a Cab, although my daughter (now 4, but tall for her age) always insists we go out in my Cab if at all possible. Mind you, as a baby she used to fall asleep in the passenger seat of my GT3 at 1.6 leptons, so she may be a little odd.

The 911's USP has always been its 2+2 configuration.

The 996/997 rear accomodation is very good - much better than previous 911s. And, Coupe and Targa are better than Cab. Even adults can travel in the rear, but probably not for too long.

Not a problem, I regularly transport the little darlings in my 996. I've generally got a 6 y/o in the back in a booster and a full harness seat for a 2 1/2 y/o. I think the only grief is in <9m range as the seats need to be rear facing. You can get a buggy (Quinny Zapp) in the boot of the 2 wheel drive 996's also (maybe the 4 WD ones as well not sure on that one).

There have been heaps of posts on this so a search will turn up all the info you'll ever need.

i've got a 3 month old and he fits very snugly into a rear facing seat in the back. the transmission tunnel also acts as more support for his seat. i love my son (obviously) and would not risk his or my wife life in an unsafe car but he is very supported.

go for it!

But for our use say ... purely for example that 1 Lepton had a value of ooh, say 100 units of something or other, then it's quite easy to work out

As far as kid seats go, we use a Britax Kid Plus in ours. Brilliant and good support, although you cannot tilt it back, and Vicki uses it in the day to day car now as it is better than the others.
