1) Slow down and stop.
2) Tyre-weld.
3) Drive to next settlement with cafe.
4) Phone European breakdown cover provider.
5) Drink coffee.

Enjoy the view of the nice cars going past while you wait for breakdown.

Depends who provides your breakdown cover, but most don't repair anything on site in France. You will get a tow to the nearest garage who will do any work for you. Depends on your cover but you will often have to pay and claim the money back. Nord Auto, Euro Pneu, Speedy are 3 examples of the French "Vite Fit" equivelants. Most "Garages Tout Marque" will try to help but are unlikely to carry exotic tyres! If your cover includes a replacement vehicle, you may have to leave poor Lotus with them and use whatever your given instead until they get the tyre. Take a spare if you think it will be an issue. Tyre = Pneu btw.

Luckily the Vette has some space saver affair under the back end so should be ok. I'm assuming that the Lotus has space and weight as a premium so doesn't carry a spare - so have you a support wagon? May be an idea to get a spare before hand and get it carried down for you.

The 10 litres of Valvoline which I got through last year will be carried down for me this time round. I want to be able to see the Gendarmes trying to pull me over this year instead of nearly running them off the road!

Speedy is the French version of Kwik Fit, it's the same company, just with a different sign above the door

Buy a DIY puncture plug set-up. Very easy to use, just a bit of brute-force and you're away. Not the ideal solution (very few quick-fit type places use it anymore) but it will do the job, saves the wait for recovery and takes up very little space.

Good idea - I used one on a two-week old rear bike tyre once, and got another 4000 miles out of it - Result!

TBH, I would have thought that it wouldnt be too long before another petrol head stopped, took you and your flat to a quick-fit type place, got flat fixed or replaced, and took you back to your car. It's what I would do, and I dont think i'd be the only one either.

I've just realised I'm in the same boat - Mini with no spare, just a can of gunk and a compressor!

Oh well, fingers crossed - at least I don't have the ride and handling ruining run-flat tyres!

But what's worse? A run-flat tyre, or one of those hideous mustard yellow space savers, like what I have got?

Easy, check out your nearest stockist/dealership of Superseal, get your car treated before you go - no worries. Been running my esprit for three years with no spare, at last tyre change found four punctures in one tyre, didnt know a thing

So it really works then? Where from and how much can I get it done for?

There's a website that will give you your nearest franchise or you can DIY it. Its around £70 but depends on tyre sizes. Im running it in the Lotus, XJS @XJ40. so far so good. I used a guy that I met doing a demo at the Knebworth show, he's based in Hemel Hempsted. Hope you get sorted, I'm running mine to Andora in August, (with no spare).
