Not impressed with BiB driving
Discussion
Driving to Mrs Envy's house during this evening's rush hour I saw blue flashing lights ahead of me.
As I was in the bus lane (out of hours) I thought it wouldn't be a problem. There was standing traffic on the other side of the road so I assumed that the BiB would be stradling the road at 25/30mph as they usually do.
Except this joker was travelling up the bus lane in the wrong direction.
Towards me.
At about 40 mph.
I swerved into the middle of the road and we clipped the wing mirrors. God knows what would have happened if we both went the same way.
Shame I didn't manage to get the number of the car.

No matter
Police complaint asap!!!!!
All details will have been logged
I agree
Don't suppose that there might have been an active bus lane camera handy, even though it was out of hours, would there?
Thought not.

be handy if there is
Just ask yourself what would have happened if you had clipped the wing mirror of the police car because of your actions?
COMPLAIN.
I cannot see any valid use of the much vaunted "exemption" in this case, that driver could have killed you, or him/herself. Even if the incident that they were responding to was one involving a life or death situation, what use would they have been if they had not got there?

Fair point, but if the OP had been driving the wrong way down a bus lane at speed and clipped a police car's mirror they probably wouldn't be posting about it.
I'm not one for complaining about police - they do a tough job and have to make difficult judgement calls in a split second.
This time though I think somebody made a decision that fell below the standards one should expect. No reasonable person would have expected that police car to have been coming *towards* them in the bus lane.
What is the road layout like? (Is it straight, or on a curve - potentially unsighted?)
Are there islands in the middle of the road that would have prevented straddling (assuming not as you say you expected the car to be in the middle of the road).
If nothing else, you were involved in an accident with a third party and this should be reported, even if only to cover yor own back - whether you wish to point out what you (and I too) feel was driving without due care etc then that is another matter.

Having slept on it I'll report it later in the week having looked to see if there is a bus lane camera.
The road is almost striaght for half a mile (it's got very shallow/slight bends but you can see clearly from start to finish if there is no traffic). There's also 2 pedestrian islands.
My intention is not to give the guy hassle (he gets enough of that doing the job) but would just like him to know that his driving needs to be worked on. Loads.
I now know the colour of adrenaline

Then don't complain - just go in (call today!!) and explain there was a collision, and you felt that you should report that it had happened, in case there was damage to police car. That in itslef will be enough for questions to be asked.
You need to report this within 24hrs as neither car stopped. It is possible that the driver of the Police car has reported it so you'll need to do it to negate any possible come back to you. If you feel the need then you can make an allegation of failing to stop but try and find out what job they were going to first( if you can)before you make that decision

Sorry, but you're only getting half marks for only reading half my post! You said you didn't want hassle, so I said:

"go in and explain", rather than cause hassle..that was all - I wasn't suggesting that you were moaning, you'd be quite within your rights to have the piss-kettle on full whack.
