I've been trying to solve problems with the heating / air-con in my early T350 (with air-con) recently and came across a part in the passenger foot well which was just floating about (so many parts in the foot well are not fixed into position!) It looks like it might be an adjustable thermostat or something like that. Below is a photo of the part. Question is, what actually is it? There is a bare piece of copper wire which looks similar to a wire on a gas boiler which is connected to a thermostat, this is what makes me think that this part is a thermostat of some kind. It definitely is adjustable (not that I have played with it!).

Any ideas? I am worried that this is not fixed into place, should it be attached to the body somewhere?

Looks like an electrical ( expanding vapour) thermostat. If you look under the glove box lid is there a gas burner?

Unplug it and see what stops working, only joking...I didn't have the bottle.

I have seen this and initial thoughts were it might be apart of the immobiliseralarm and the nob is for sensitivity, but I don't know...

There is another part infront of this that says TVR heater sensor or something like that, this may be what your looking for in relation to your heater ac problem...

I've seen this in a cerbera, it's for the air-conditioning You can adjust the temp from hear. Be careful if you adjust it, if its to cold it frosts everything up. If you want to know more do a search on the cerbera forum.

Aha!! I have the same thing in my Tuscan and was wondering a while back what it was. I have a/c too so I will play with it and see what happens to the temps!

Cheers folks,

Andy

Thanks guys, maybe it could be something for the air-con to adjust the temperature at which the hot air is limited to? The copper wire seems to connect to the duct where the air comes into the cabin from the engine bay and looks like the wire on my gas boiler (in the house... not the car )which attaches to a thermostat which cuts off my boiler if it gets too hot. At the moment if I put the hot air on in my car (once the engine is warm) the air is so hot I am surprised the dash hasn't started melting!

The part which is causing my heater problems is the "Heater Amplifier" which is a little metal block with 2 x large capacitors on it. It appears to be the cables in the connector rather than the amplifier itself. I'm looking for a way of cutting back the damaged cable and re-attaching them to the connector but am unsure how to do this.
