Any one ever heard of JDM cars (Canadian importers)???

Well, I've had an offer for the wedge.
I had an email from a guy (in Canada) discussing the price etc and now we are agreed, he has contacted the car importer he will be using - JDM Cars ( www.jdmcars.ca/ ).

I have since had an email from the importer saying he wants to pick the car up.

Obviously, I am very cautions and well aware it could be a scam, but it could also be genuine.

Firstly,
Has anyone heard of JDM car importers? and secondly,
If I will only take cash on collection, what other scams could such con-men be up to?

False bankers drafts where the money vanishes from your account a couple of days after you put it in, when the bank find out, leaving you with nothing but a dispute with the bank!! I'll just go'n find the thread.

I would only deal in cash and would also take photocopies of passports etc before any deal could be struck. I does sound a bit dodgy, although could be genuine...

I have asked on a couple of other forums (General TVR and the main gassing station) but so far, no replies....

What is the world coming too when you have to worry about scams and someone ripping you off?

Had the same when I sold my V8S to a guy in Ireland.

Got paid by CHAPS.

Money is transferred to your account almost instantaenously and once the bank have confirmed the transfer and the money is sitting in your account, there is no way it can be withdrawn except by yourself. I would be careful with cash, it might not be the real stuff.

Hi L33,

I'm the guy that wants to buy your nice wedge.
The offer is quite genuine. I fully understand how you
feel parting with your car as I just had to part with $22k in advance
Cdn to do this deal. Just like your apprehensions, I also had mine
given the money involved.

The only reason I was prepared to fork over so much money to a "website"
is because the bank to bank transfer was the same bank as mine. I could verify
that it was a business account, and since it involved a bank, it has a paper trail to
somebody. I also verified things like jdmcars being a registered car dealer in the province of Ontario. Life's a gamble, but seeing my tiv dropped off in my driveway will make it all worth it.

Good to see all parties concerned are taking sensible precautions and are happy to be verified. Why don't you ask the agent to provide a couple of contact names at reputable companies(which you can independently verify) they have dealt with who would be prepared to give a verbal reference?

It's kind of late for that now, but OTOH my worries are pretty much over now, provided the boat doesn't sink. JDMCars has made contact with the owner, an inspection has been arranged, and the payment method settled. I'm not going to get all worried now. JDMCars has handled everything just as I hoped would happen, it's what they do and I'm thankful services like theirs exist as it saves me a lot of time, travel and trouble.
