What Fuel for Wortec Remapped 6l VXR

I see from the FAQ's that standard 95 unleaded is fine for an unmodified car, but that this may not apply for a modded engine. I only have the wortec remap (and catback) and am wondering whether i can get by on standard 95 unleaded. My daily commute 240 miles commute is mainy motorway so getting the last fraction out of the engine is not critical. (Its hard enough keeping that license as it is!) Anyone got a view?

I use Tesco 99 on my GTS, which "only" has the 5.7 LS1 engine. Roger at Monkfish recommended it, it's cheap, and the car runs really well on it. Come to think of it this may not help you much either, but it's at least an attempt to be constructive
I use Tesco 99 or rather I did with my smart as the consumption was 20% worse than Optimax, admittedly the smart engine is in a higher state of tune than the blown GTS but for m/way driving it equates to money down the drain, same applies to the GTS, if you are just crusing up & down m/ways 95 RON is OK, spirited driving then Tesco or Optimax, just my experiences

Cheers mate. That was my gut feeling - just wanted to be sure that the remap hadnt tuned the motor to such an extent that 97/98/99 was essential.
The map in your car is designed to run on 97+ fuel IF you run on anything less the car will reduce timing (and power)if it detects knock, but I would advise you to use quality fuel instead of relying on the knock sensors (they are reactive not pro active) or consider having your map returned to standard'ish................
Note: a standard tune will use more fuel than a remaped car....

Definitve answer - cheers. No way im re-mapping backwards!
Have always found this an interesting topic.
But as a word of caution I would steer clear of Sainsbury's BP Super Unleaded, cos I found out by having the car remapped, that what I thought was super was in fact 95. Oh dear, did the cack hit the fan!!!
Now, have tried various fuels to include Tesco 99, Texaco Hi-Octane, BP Ultimate and Shell V-Power and Optimax. And I keep it to those brands.
Now, the car performed its worst with Tesco 99, it felt lumpy and acceleration felt hesitant. SO ater a few tanks of this stuff, decided never to go back to it.
I ran Texaco Hi-Octane for a long time and had great results, so no probs with that. Same with BP Ultimate, th car loves both.
Bit the fun is with Shell V-Power. Not sure what quite happens when you put a tank of this stuff in, but things tend to get a bit louder and I have noticed at least a 5% increase in economy over other fuels on typical repeat motorway journeys. I've had at least 20+ tanks of this stuff after the other and the car is loving it at the mo.
Its been an interesting 16 months of testing different fuels, but 95 is deffo a no no once you have had the remap done, the car simply hates it, becomes quite, economoy goes through the window. But you pay the price. Its cheap and it performs that way as well.

You can use whatever fuel the ecu is mapped for.....
SO if its mapped specifically for your car, on the fuel you normally use, then its fine.
If its a generic re-map, then see above comments.

I never noticed any odd runnings until I was told that the fuel in my tank wasnt 97, thats the point I was trying to make!!!

Its fine until someone gives you a reason to think otherwise ? which may or may not have any factual basis.
perhaps mainland stations are different. I know there is only a couple of big oil terminals in Belfast, and no doubt they supply everywhere in Northern Ireland. So maybe some of the fuel we get, is different to what you guys get over there.
Thanks for all comments. I must say i have run two tanks of 95 (once when it was all that was available and it seem to run ok - although on deer and highland cattle strewn roads perhaps i wasnt as spirited as i could have been!
I noticed that the sainsbury's stuff was v cheap - but hey it sounds like V power is the go.

I had to put 95 ron in my remapped car the other day as there was no SP unleaded available.
Seams to be running okay and I did 150 miles back from London in it.
In fact I would go as far to say it was running really well pulling in 2nd and 3rd gear.
I thought that running on 95 only reduced a few horsies!!!
